Christopher Dorner EX-LAPD out for vengence

I think this story deserve a thread of its own, because it seems most of CA that are non-LEO is actually on the side of this guy.

And people in LA, especially minorities have a real understand of the LAPD, and how its has not changed one bit..

The Los Angeles Times reports that 70 percent of Los Angeles residents now say they approve of the police department, and at one stop on the bus tour, the Korean owner of a small convenience store offers words of praise.
The LAPD is 37% white and 42% Hispanic. I was on a social justice blog once and they were complaining about how Mexican teenagers were treated in East Los Angeles by the LAPD. One thing I noticed is that the officers they were talking about were Hispanic themselves. I suggested that they may have come from those neighborhoods and know better than anyone else what is going on there. They countered with this idea that the Latino officers have internalized the institutional racism maintained by the white power structure. So even when Latino officers racially profile, it's still whitey's fault somehow.

Anyway, Dorner is a nut and the cops are probably corrupt in some sense, but I think when you've got such lopsided crime statistics in regards to race and a victim complex culture, of course certain groups are going to hate the police. They come into contact with police relatively more often because they commit a disproportionate amount of the crime.

In my experience, I've only had problems with private security, not police.

I hope they kill him ASAP. They won't take him alive if they can help it.

Maybe Obama can send some Predator drones over to assist?

Patrice O'Neal is my hero, and Louis CK is brilliant, so his comedy tastes cannot be argued with of course.

Since people want to take away guns from law-abiding citizens, how about we start with some of the most blatant offenders; cops.

I ave to wonder, couldn't they just use helicopters? I mean they probably can't stay up as long, but it shouldn't be hard to keep them rotating in shifts.

Yeah...South Africa's apartheid has absolutely nothing to do with the current state of the country and whites were the minority! It's unpossible that they twisted the system in their favor!

You might want to familiarize yourself with the Independent Commission of the Los Angeles Police Department.

On this topic: someone on reddit brought up an interesting point: the fact that the cops opened fire on that car on the sheer basis that it looked like Dorner's hints that he knows something that they don't want exposed and they're willing to shoot fitrst and ask questions later.

Here's the thread if anyone's interested: http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/com..._those_ladies/

I don't support Dorner's ends (a kindler, gentler, more "equal" police state) or his means to those ends (violence), but it's clear that the LAPD is a larger terrorist outfit. I'm not sure how serious Chase was in his call for disarming the cops, but I second it; and I'll add that all government agencies should be disarmed, and the military disbanded. I hope that my calls for rebranding the military and "defense" agencies like police as socialism will catch on with right-wingers eventually.

Never. The military is the only thing right wingers say the government should be supporting any time you ask them. I am not saying you are wrong that our military is too large but that right wingers will never call it socialism. They are protecting our freedom remember?

It's an oversimplification to say "whitey's fault," but if that's what it takes to be dismissive of institutionalized racism in police departments, then whatever helps you get to that point.

As for LAPD's history, this was just a decade and a half ago:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communi...treet_Hoodlums
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampart_scandal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javier_Ovando

It's not just mistreatment of minority citizens that has been a concern in the LAPD; it's how gangs were active members of the police force, it's the abuse of power/misuse of force, and the culture of silence that surrounds it. The concern is not "racism" inasmuch as it is that police themselves employ a "stop snitchin'" standard when it comes to misuse of force.

Sure, we can talk about the fact that misuse of force by police being tied to racism (I'll find you two dozen Oscar Grants for every white suspect who has been treated similarly), but the problem of racism here is secondary. The complaint that Dorner filed (for which he was eventually fired) was his concern that a suspect was unnecessarily kicked and beaten by another officer.

In sum, perhaps you should be very careful about critiquing people for evoking the "race card" in the future, when you're so ready to whip it out as a straw man.

Perhaps I misunderstand you here, but huh?

Don't be ridiculous. They want him dead because he's a cop killer, he killed a police captain's daughter and he let it be known he wants to kill cops. Whatever may have happened regarding his employment doesn't justify the murder of the daughter of the man he considers responsible or randomly killing other police officers.

They opened fire on the wrong truck under the strain of being actively hunted by a known killer. Thank god those people were ok.

Yeah see that's the problem. Crazy cop killer on the loose or not you don't open fire on a vehicle just because it just so happens to look like the one the guy you're after drives. Proper police protocol doesn't go out the ing window because some guy is gunning for you. That's a gross breach of ethical conduct on the LAPD's part.

Oh and to be crystal clear I'm not making Dorner out to be some sort of anti-hero. What I am saying is that their behavior is proving the point he was making in his manifesto.

When someone is actively seeking to kill YOU and you get notified that a vehicle fitting his description is approaching, you let me know if you're thinking about procedure under that kind of pressure. They thought they were in mortal danger and reacted inappropriately, endangering the lives of innocent people.

Split second life and death decisions ultimately come down to training. With their budget cuts and high turnover I'm not surprised. They're not thinking about whether or not he'll spill the beans on Biggie's death if he lives.

Yes and since there are probably 100000's of look-alike cars, the police need to shoot them all first....

Its the innocents fault for driving around in a vehicle that matches the perp. They got it all coming to them.

Guess the police didn't bother matching license plate or having a hard time knowing the difference btw a 200lbs black man compared to 5 feet small hispanics

If you'd like we can go ahead and discuss what I said instead of these strawmen.

They were wrong to shoot that car. They're not robots. This is a unique situation that they're evidently not prepared to deal with and this should be addressed asap. But to say that they're shooting up cars because they want this killer to keep quiet about something he's had the opportunity to divulge for at least 4 years... Is unfounded at best. They shot that car because they panicked.
