SimCity (2013) Official Thread

SimCity - coming out March 5, 2013 (PC)

A.K.A. SimCity 2013/SimCity 5

It is a reboot of the original SimCity franchise

This is a new SimCity that delivers unprecedented depth of simulation. The model-like world and detail of the simulation make this the most responsive and personal SimCity ever. This is also the most expansive city management game yet where you can control a region that delivers true multi-city scale and play a single city or up to 16 cities at once each with different specializations. Multiplayer is also a first for the series, which adds a new dimension to your game as your decisions impact both your city and your region and creates new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements. Finally, SimCity is a live service that simulates real time updates from new challenges to new features and content

I'm sure people get sick of hearing this.

But, agreed. Origin is a deal killer for me.

I can always close Origin so that isnt a deal breaker for me, what bugs me is always having to be online. Also I think steam and origin are both evil but I have gotten use to it.

Yep, the Origin thing doesn't bother me so much as the always online. It's so damn shoehorned into this game that really comes across as nothing other than DRM.

It has been a very long time since I have played a Sim City game.

Most likely will pick this up at one point in time. Now issues with Origin, service is not that bad, I just run everything through steam still.

I am glad someone started this thread because I was about to make it, lol. I will get it when it is cheaper. Orgin doesn't scare me. I played the beta and loved it. I was wondering if any CAGs want to get a region going? I want to do a tourism/casino with an electronics backed sister city.

I will after I get the hang of it. I havent played in a while so I dont want to hold you back (if it does). If it has 0 impact on you then I dont mind joining from the start.

This is a really interesting launch. I love how EA/Maxis spun the always-online DRM as a "live service," and I also love how a few game reviewers ran into server problems and lost access to their saves/cities for their reviews. And then there's the philosophical holdouts who refuse to kowtow to lousy DRM practices.

This thing is packed with drama. It'll be fun to see how all of this shakes out.

EDIT: I was reading around about this launch and at the /r/simcity at reddit some users noted that the physical copy of the game only has 2 GB and requires a full 10 GB download if you want to boot into the game. EA says suck it, no bandwidth havin hillbillies.

That isnt a dealbreaker for me with downloading as sadly that is how every game is now. What concerns me is the drm problem.

I didn't raise the point as a negative, only as evidence of the kind of thing that's going to piss off a lot of the philosophical holdouts even more.

There will be fireworks with this one. Hopefully.

Cynical Brit has a video, and it looks great. I should note around min 20 they start talking about that the problems with the game being that it almost requires multiplayer as the towns pause when you leave them. Also that the towns are kinda small.

I'm so torn on this game. I loved playing the betas, and the game was fun despite its scaled back... uhh.. scale, but I despise Origin and EA and the silly DRM-policies, especially with this game.

I don't know what to do. I know I've got Tomb Raider pre-loaded on Steam and waiting to play that in 30 minutes, so while I play that, I'll let SimCity launch and keep track of whats going on.

EA/Origin will probably need to work out server issues (and I'm sure there will be some). Plus hey, maybe the price will drop a bit or a deal will rear its head.
