Starting today until March 13, Harmonix has started weekly tournaments on songs through their game Rock Band Blitz and its Rock Band World Facebook app.

How Tournaments Work When you sign up to play in Rock Band Blitz Tournaments, you’ll be able to participate in the three Tournaments that are created each week. A Rock Band Blitz Tournament is simply a temporary leaderboard built for a specific song that runs for a week. Participating in a Tournament is easy, all you have to do is play! Once you’ve signed up for Tournaments and posted a score on a Tournament song in Rock Band Blitz, you’re automatically entered in that Tournament leaderboard. You can replay the song as many times as you like -we’ll record the highest score you post! If you have the top score when the Tournament ends, you’ll win ten free DLC codes and an Astro “Roadie” Rock Band guitar case! If you don’t have the top score, don’t sweat it – you still might win! The player with the second highest score for each Tournament will win three free DLC codes and a limited edition Rock Band Blitz poster! On top of that, each week we’ll select three random winners from all entrants to each win three free DLC codes! With three Tournaments running at a time, that means we’re picking six Tournament winners and three random winners every week! Every Thursday, we’ll refresh with three new Tournaments – so if you didn’t win last week, try again this week! All entrants in the Rock Band Blitz Tournaments agree to be bound by the official rules, which can be found here.

In simpler terms:
First place in a song: 10 DLC codes (1600 MS points / $21.90 PSN funds) and an Astro "Roadie" Rock Band guitar case.
Second place in a song: 3 DLC codes (480 MS points / $6.57 PSN funds) and a limited edition Rock Band Blitz poster.
3 randomly selected entrants: 3 DLC codes (480 MS points / $6.57 PSN funds)

a DLC code = 160 MS points or $2.19 in PSN funds. Why it's $2.19 and not $1.99, I don't know, but it is.

So even if you don't get first or second place, you'll still have a chance to win 3 DLC codes just for playing a qualifying song.

What you'll need:

• Rock Band Blitz for either Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. The game is 1200 MS points or $14.99. Playing the demo version will not count.
• Some eligible songs are DLC or from export packs. I'll label whether the song is DLC, from an export pack, or included with Blitz.
• A Facebook account
• Your Xbox Live or PSN account linked to the Rock Band World FB app. Instructions are found in Rock Band Blitz under Help & Options -> Rock Band World Link.
• Opt in to the tournament through the front page of the Rock Band World FB app.

Yeah, I was in the Top 10 (for a few hours) on the 2 songs I own, before the real players got in the action - I am currently ranked at 20 on A Jagged Gorgeous Winter & 22 on Always.

It would also be great if HMX hadn't ed with the powerups to the point that pinball is the only way to compete, which basically makes the point of the game, hitting notes, unnecessary.

It was fun while it lasted, though.

Are you serious? That's how the top scorers are getting up there?

This would've been a good idea if it wasn't already predetermined that someone who doesn't work and is able to play the game all day would win. Nice, as if the #1 scorer on these songs needs more songs to fuel that addiction.

And it's all over. Rock Band World is back to giving out coins from Community Goals that I never play.
