I have to agree with Wombat somewhat. Ape Escape has jumping no doubt, but the focus of the game is using gadgets to catch monkey, not moving from one perilous edge to another.

To make a comparison; I consider Ratchet and Clank to be a shooter, not a platformer; the emphasis is on shooting, not jumping. I know many who would disagree.

I guess you look at what is the most prevalent or difficult game mechanic in my book.

I'm of the belief that there are many subgenres. Ape Escape's a platformer because there's a lot of platforming along with puzzle-solving and basic item-collecting, while Ratchet is an action-platformer because of its focus on combat. The platforming genre shrinks greatly if you become extremely anal about what is a part of the genre, especially one that's evolved so much.

Plus, Wombat admits how stupid that claim was in the show.

fun show, i always like the Wombat and Shippy team-ups. akward moments between two men make me laff. :P i like how Wombat was arguing with Shippy about Daxter/Ape Escape even tho Wombat has said Shippy is always right about games, hehe.

Shippy, i'm surprised you haven't played the Simpsons game yet. it's HILARIOUS and the achievements are pretty easy. if you're willing to play through Hour of Victory, Simpsons should've been played before that.

Good show, but I'm looking forward to mrs. ship returning (nothing personal, Wombat). I did however love it when Wombat pulled a Cheapy on ship, cutting him off and basically telling him to move on.

Did I really hear one of the segues, "Speaking of eating....Paws and Claws is coming out for the DS" (or something like that)???? Reminded me way too much of a place up in Maryland I once saw where there was a meat market next to a veterinary center.

ship, I'll be interested in your opinions on the new Atlus game. I haven't exactly enjoyed any of the stylus-controlled games I've played so far, so I'm definitely going to hold out on this one for awhile, but I do have a weakness for Atlus games...

Thanks for a fun show to listen to while I was at the gym!

So I decided to google roogoo after you guys talked about it. It's getting really really good reviews. 8.5 from IGN for example. Haven't played the demo, maybe I'll check it out.

The demo is sleep inducing. I really can't understand the high scores for it.

Hey Ship, your sig is still touting Foreplay #42. Now, you may not have been proud of the show with Wombat, but come on, the people deserve to know!

Actually, I thought it was a great show. I will admit that I did miss imagining Mrs. Ship's eye rolls at your nerdiness, but overall, it was good. It was nice to finally have some good games to hear about too - even though you've taken some weeks off lately, there hasn't been much to talk about due to GTA being talked about EVERYWHERE else. Thanks for the fun!

Oh, and Wombat, I downloaded the iFanboy podcast, thanks for the heads up!

-Oh, and thanks for mentioning my comment Ship "on-air" (I agree that it's not the coolest feature ever, just I remember Mrs. Shipwreck saying she wanted it.) One of the things I really like about CAG is the community feeling here - unlike many websites, people actually read what I type.

Great show, gentlemen!

I must say- I agree with Shipwreck's description of Daxter. It also came with my PSP,...and as much as I try to get into it,...it just feels like a very early Ps2 game :( ...a good game, just not that exciting anymore.

Also, the fact that Nermal from Garfield is actually a male cat blew my ing mind! Are you serious!??! My entire childhood was lies!

Anyways, can't wait to have you back on the show, Mrs. S.
