What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamearush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v...eStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform (unless otherwise stated they are for all SIX "current" platforms - 360, DS, Wii, PSP, PS2, and PS3)
Tale of Despereaux (360, Wii, PS2)

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

List of decent $9.99 (and under) used games at Blockbuster

Blockbuster tends to shift rentals to used merchandise fairly regularly and this often results in lower than usual (compared to Gamestop or Gamecrazy) prices on certain used games. The condition of these games can vary wildly, of course, depending on how often they got rented. But I was somewhat surprised to find that in many cases they may have never been rented at all meaning you can get a practically mint game for very cheap. The purpose of this list is to keep track of particularly good deals relative to Gamestop and other places and to make sure CAGs don't overlook some great deals to use their cheap Blockbuster credit on. $9.99 is sort of the magic price that many CAGs are willing to get used games for at Blockbuster, so the list will focus on those with a few specific cases of decent values at higher prices mentioned afterwards. Below that I will put a "wait list" of mostly $14.99 games that ought to be coming down to $9.99 sooner or later and are readily available at most stores.

Armored Core 4
Beautiful Katamari
Bee Movie Game
Blue Dragon

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time.

Trade-In Values
Trade-In Price Wiki <-- An archive of older trade-in prices is kept here. Unfortunately this site is no longer editable, so the information is out of date. Supposedly a new CAG 2.0 feature to be rolled out soon will allow for storage of game trade-in information along with other game-specific information (like reviews, current MSRP, sales, etc). As soon as that happens we will resume compiling trade-in prices.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Trade-in prices generally used to change on Tuesdays. However, it appears they are in the midst of changing this and now prices seem to change Monday first thing in the morning. To be safe, do any game trading by Saturday if you are worried about the price potentially dropping.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

For those looking to build up Blockbuster credit via Gamestop, here are some transfer possibilities. Note that none of these would be considered good for cash purchases, but if you have extra Gamestop credit from some of the recent deals they might be worthwhile. this is from the previous thread.

The joker framed artwork isnt 50% off. I was just saying that it was new. Sry. It's full price. I bought it today for 29.99. They only got in 1 copy at my closest BBV.

The office framed artwork looks like it is from season 1. You would hang it up horizontally and it shows the main characters sitting around a desk in the meeting room. It also shows quotes from the show written on big post it notes.

Also, TIV Aug 05 - Eye of Judgement - 33

Well, I currently have a meager $46 in credit there(compared to MANY of you, it's meager) and I'm seriously considering getting Mercenaries 2 at the end of this month there. But, I'm looking for a REALLY good game or movie or whatever to flip, so I don't have to pay much(if anything) out of pocket.

I got like $3, so I probably wont be doing it. But I think I'm gonna get the GOW psp instead of the blue one, since it has a game that I actually want and I like the color as much as the blue one. But eventually I think I'll buy a new case mod.

One thing I've been waiting for the console makers to release(but they never will) is a CLEAR case for their systems. I'd love to have played on a PS1/PS2 or even now the PS3 with a CLEAR case to it. I just think it'd be interesting to see what's going on inside the system while you're playing it.

Something I'm somewhat planning on transferring credit for from GS to BBV is the upcoming release of the Godfather Trilogy on Blu Ray. I have a while though.

yeah the custom case mod for the psp I am interested in it clear blue.

So I think I'll just cancel the madden psp preorder and buy the GOW psp. Then later if I'm not sold on the color buy one of the case mods.

Thank you IO.

I really need a good coupon for GS -> BB transfers this weekend. I am trying to get enough for a 80 gig MGS bundle at BB.

User "captnjack" reported yesterday in the old thread that k&l held at 30.

can we keep this thread focused on TIV and new items being sold like burger king ketchup flavored chips?
Old 08-06-2008, 10:13 AM   #17
Traded in 33 games at once yesterday for a total of $281.xx, I had put all my good stuff in a bag for the store where the manager works who is cool with what I'm doing. I gave him all my good GC stuff, Metal Slug Anth...Kingdom Hearts2, etc. I swapped 2 other batches of 7 games each, so I'm down to around 100 games I have to trade back in to GS now. I have about 15-20 games they won't take because they are scratched or even broken. I didn't check the games as I bought them because I was buying 20-40 at a time. I've got all the receipts though, so I'm gonna take the bad ones back and swap for good titles. I found that when you bring back a game for return, they scan it in and give you the credit 1:1 (they could give you 50% of the value since it was B1G1, but they don't)..so now maybe I'll swap them in and get used PS3 or Wii games.

Thanks for the info in the old thread about the upcoming 50% off at GS sports games that trade for more at BB. Hopefully the TIVs hold at BB. SST looks to be one of the best GS to BB flips at the moment, closely followed by K&L. Thanks again for all the hard work to compile and track TIVs for flippers.

Good luck finding one (unless your BBV actually has them in stock).

At this point I have very little qualms begging someone to buy one for me with my value cards even if they're in another state. Of course I wouldn't have to consider this if BBV could transfer systems from one store to another outside of their district.

Oh, and thanks for the new thread IO.
