We played Mr Jack and Bump in the Night tonight. I definitely cannot recommend Bump in the Night. The directions are horribly complicated but yet leave many questions and while the game requires a lot of stratagy it requires all of it around 1 convoluted idea which made it simply unenjoyable. Already put the game up for sale on craigslist to try and recoup loses.
Mr Jack however is a total recommendation especially given that you can get it for $25! We played 3 games of it tonight and found it very enjoyable and while it may not get broke out as much as Ticket to Ride I bet we will replay it for years. The game is extremely simple yet every turn there are a ton of things to think out if you want to win, especially as jack. The basic concept of the game is that there are like 8-12 characters placed on the board at the start, one player will be playing jack the ripper the other trying to solve who is jack the ripper. The character that plays as Jack draws a card that tells him which of the characters on the board is jack. So the one player spends the game trying to find which character is jack the other trying to protect jack. Each turn 4 cards depicting characters are drawn and each player will get to move 2 of them. Jack wants to keep as many people either in or out of street light tiles because at the end of his turn he has to declare if the characters are in the light or out of the light. Thus the game is a simple process of elimination. Like I said avoid bump in the night but Mr Jack is a great game.

While this may not be THE best place to ask, I've had no response elsewhere... anyone have a cheap site for RPG rulebooks?

Prices/shipping rates. They don't exactly offer very fair shipping rates if your ordering smaller stuff, and generally the prices are only so competitive, in my eyes anyways. I just know many places are better to order from.

So now that the topic has been open for 3 weeks, how many games have you bought? Because it sounds like a lot. And what have been your fiance's favorites (and least favorites) so far? I'm always trying to find games that my wife will like, so I'm curious what's worked for you so far. My wife really likes Ticket to Ride and Lost Cities, and I'm going to try to get her started on Dominion soon, now that I've gotten all of my other friends playing it. Dominion is great, because you can learn the basic rules in about 2 minutes, then you've got to figure out what the 10 Kingdom cards do, which will only take about another 5 minutes. As you play more, swap out a couple of Kingdom cards for new ones so that the game changes but not too much.
I think I'll eventually work her up to Settlers of Catan (which some of her friends play), or the Catan card game. I tried to explain Agricola, but you can't just jump into it and learn as you go, or you won't know what you're doing. I'd echo what someone else said, and find a video review (try "Board Games with Scott") that will explain the rules for you. |

I personally can't stand Ticket to Ride. If you ever play with someone aggressive that loves to block, it turns into a real crappy game real fast. It only gets played by kids now, in my circle. Thurn and Taxis is a similar game I like a lot better.
I've learned that with Agricola, teaching the rules before playing is difficult and scary. Most people pick it up really fast if you just get the game out and walk through a couple rounds. It's a game that needs a 'practice' game without the cards first for nearly everyone. Just explain what the goals are and that getting a little bit of everything is best. Does anyone here play caylus? Cayluls Magna carta is the lighter card version that's actually really good. Galaxy trucker is also a real fun one that is pretty light. Only problem is, it's not really cheap. |

Munchkins + Xpack Mr Jack + Xpack Ticket to Ride +1910 and Switzerland Xpack Bump in the Night Talisman Battlelore Zombies + several Xpacks Talisman Last Night on Earth + Xpack Guillotine Zombie Fluxx Race of the Galaxy Dominion Pandemic So far of the games we have played they are placed in this order(both of us agree) 1. Ticket to Ride 2. Mr Jack 3. Last Night on Earth 4. Talisman 5. Zombies 6. Bump in the night. Ticket to Ride is a must try and both of us place it as by far the best game. I seriously bet this game will get broken out all the damn time(we have played it like 10 times in the last 2 weeks). The switzerland Xpack for it I wouldn't really recommend till your bored with the game and need a twist. We played it 1 time and havnt touched it since. 1910 is nice if you can find it for $10-$13 since it adds more objectives/routes to complete. Mr Jack is a great 2 player game and if you look at my post on this page you can see a general summary of how its played. Last Night on Earth and Talisman we place pretty close to each other in quality and either can be a decent 2 player game if they are the type your looking for. Zombies I dont really recommend since Last Night on Earth is sooooo freaking much better as others have said. Bump in the Night I not only don't recommend but I recommend to avoid it(where as zombies I wouldn't say to avoid it just that LNoE nulls the need for it). If you have any questions feel free to post them and I will keep posting updates on the games as we play them since it seems a few people are in similar shoes as us and interested in what we like. Tonight we might play Battlelore(Batltelore might wait since it seems kind of complicated and like a really read the manual kind of game). And I am sure as soon as Dominion, Zombie Fluxx, Pandemic and Guillotine gets here(it was ordered a few days ago and hasnt showed up yet)we will play them since we are excited to play them. I think Dominion is the only game with a chance of overtaking Ticket to Ride @thrust - We havnt played any of those yet but after we finish all of what we bought Agricola and Thurn and Taxis is at the top of my list of games to buy. |

We rarely play it though, just because set up time can be so long. I need to get down a system so it sets up fast (Pull cards or category boxes for each unit). |

Are you saying this because you love Munchkins or because you havnt played it and are interested in hearing about it? Either way my guess is that we might get to it in a few nights but if we dont it wont be played for a week or so |

Battlestar Galactica is really awesome. Very well done co-op game. Everyone wants to play it since we played it.
Munchkin is horrible. Seriously. Go to the boardgamegeek.com and bring it up in their forums and they will laugh you out of it. It isn't really a game, it's just something to do with friends (kind of like killer bunnies). There is practically no balance and one card draw can make that person dominate the whole game. Sure, the cards are funny, but it's impossible to play it competitively. It's probably something you should whip out when everyone is drunk. |
