It may be a Jasper, but it could be any one of like three possible DVD-ROM drives - BenQ, Samsung/Toshiba or Hitachi drives.
Some may be quieter or louder than others. Check your disc tray with this: http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_3...Comparison.htm (a little out dated, but a good starting point) Provided you get a hard drive, a work around the noise would be to install your game to the hard drive and just leave the disc inside the tray. The Xbox requires that, while you will be loading/playing the game from the HDD, the physical disc must remain inside the tray. EDIT: Found a way better DVD drive database @ http://www.360drives.com/list ^ let's you search by team name, prod. date, where you bought it, etc. Last edited by m0rningbreakfast; 11-16-2009 at 10:45 AM.. |

I believe only playing games from the hard drive goes a long way towards preventing system failure. Both times my old system rrod it sounded as if it was struggling to read the disc . Since they allowed the copy to hard drive function, no rrod(knock wood). I think M$'s hand was probably forced to add the copy to hdd by the state of their own hardware. Even the guy in the Xbox 101 video says it causes less stress on the system and makes for a happier, healthier Xbox.
Yes it sucks having to buy an overpriced drive(no fakes either!) and it's a pita if you only have 20gb and always have to delete games but the hard drive is the way to go. Better load times, quieter, more dependable. |
