I have to say this game has been terrible for helping me to clear a backlog of games I've got. I'm like 14 hrs in and I'm only soul level 40, I essentially end up goofing around alot but I really like the game I think I screwed up and tried to make my character too balanced though, which makes things even a bit more unforgiving. I keep trying to load up on str, mag, and dex and it's not going that great. May have to take a mulligan....

Too bad I lost my SL 152 to YLOD. It would be nice if they make the dungeon crawling random (ala Diablo 2 style). After the first play through, you knew where everything was, they just made the enemies do more damage overall. |

1. voice chat, and 2, the ability to actually invite a friend versus random. Random was a nice idea but this is a game and I want to play with friends without having to try a few times to get them into my game or vice versa.

Basically, you're not supposed to do that. You can, and it's incredibly cumbersome to do it for a reason. It was deliberate, not an oversight. The whole idea is that you're supposed to be summoning random people to add variety and a sense of mystery to the game. |

Forget voice chat, they just need to make the dungeon crawling random (ala Diablo 2 style) and make it possible to invite friends into the game. Then the games message and rating system will even be more useful.

I don't think the design could really work well with random enemies at all. The level design and enemy placement and AI are very carefully interwoven. At least, it seems that way to me.
Also, how would the message system be useful if things were randomized? You could never leave messages warning about ambushes or strong enemies or what weapon/spell to use on the next enemy, etc. |

Yeah I realized that. My gripe was just that after completing the game I knew where everything way. So the only hard part is the super damaging enemies.
Just imagine a Demon's Souls world where bi-weekly the dungeon crawling changes, then the message system would be in full use. The game is never the same when playing. Now the player must tread dungeons even more carefully than before and constantly be checking messages and blood stains. I dont think the bosses would be any different, but the dungeon crawling to get there would be different. I think its a lot, but it would make the re-play value endless. Think about the uses with their black/white world tendencies. They should make weapon drops a bit more random too. Kind of got annoying when every high level player was using the best sword and shield in the game. I still say no to the voice chat, allow text chat of course. |

Yeah, I agree with your feeling. The worst part of Demon's Souls for me was that once I had played through all the worlds once or twice, I lost that feeling of exploration and excitement (and nervousness to a large degree on many worlds, like my first time through 3-1). And it could never be captured again.
DLC with new worlds would be great. Anyhow, I think that's why so many people focus on PvP once they've played through the game a few times. It's the only way left to create new situations and still get enjoyment from this awesome game. |
