Ahhh, the tags for these are always so entertaining...

a vain effort, amazon fools gold, failsauce, here we go again, hope springs eternal, hopelessness, inevitable disappointment, tragedy, wii shovelware, wishful thinking

As much as I love amazon, I am sick of all the love amazon gets on CAG. It is borderline fanboyish...

This love might end soon when states fight back to get the taxes they are owed...

you think amazon has too many fanboys on here?....have you not noticed the k-mart tards who feel the need to post in nearly every thread about how the deal at k-mart is so much better :/

I can live with k-mart posts... but amazon fanboys are just annoying. Every time a store like Wal-Mart, Best Buy or GameStop has a deal, there has to be some post about "having amazon price match because I have credit". Seriously, it is annoying.

I kinda can understand that....but it's just bc they would rather use up their credit as opposed to spending cash for games....I don't think its all that to do with the no sale tax thing though...i personally would still shop w/ amazon even if i were charged sales tax, bc for the most part the things I buy are usually cheaper then from buying them in a b&m store. One example of this, I just bought a new camera bag from amazon that was only like $4.66. That same camera bag retails for $10.99 at bestbuy/walmart/etc. And with the free prime for students, I never have to worry about shipping. Plus it helps i have a ton of credit from trading in

I guess I must be a borderline Amazon fanboy too. I always look for an Amazon PM when possible. But then free 2 day shipping/no sales tax charged is tough to beat. I realize we are all legally responsible for the Use Taxes owed for those sales but luckily the government doesn't police it well enough. At least as of yet. I just hope they do some kind of amnesty for past purchases that were owed sales tax whenever they do get it figured out or we are going to owe a ton of taxes.

I think this is a fight the states will lose, that is why they haven't challenged the issue. States don't have the right to tax interstate commerce. Unless Amazon resides in your state, buying from Amazon is interstate. States tax code suggest that they should be able to collect tax but it is on flimsy grounds Constitutionally. A federal sales tax law should be required. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the court.

The problem is the Use Tax laws in place. They can't charge sales tax but when a product comes into the state the Use Tax is owed (in most if not all states it is the same % as the sales tax). Since Use Taxes are the resposibility of the purchaser to provide to the government they are often not collected either due to ignorance of the law or simply unwillingness to obey.

Seriously, I would guess that <1% of people who purchase "out of state" report those purchases on their taxes, why bother? Its a silly waste of time and the States can't track the purchases anyway. Who cares? The States can off, they get enough money from other sources, greedy bastards.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like Amazon will match at least a few of the 2 for $50 games at $25 each. Not Fear, but some others. Or at least I can keep telling myself that...

What I don't get is how NY got Amazon to collect sales tax but other states can't.

I'm an Amazon fan but I do feel that it is unfair to other stores that have to charge tax. It's not like the tax is money they keep.
