According to a trusted source, Walmart will be dropping the price of the Nintendo 3DS on August 9th, 3 days before the official drop takes effect. This means savvy shoppers will be able to get the new low price and the 20 free downloadable games available as a reward to early adopters of the 3DS. Just connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11 to qualify for the free games.

Sounds good, no price matching funny business needed. Well, unless you buy a 3DS now.

Nice! I really didn't want to deal with the whole price guarantee thing at other retailers.

The $169.99 will be the new retail price and the free games will be available as long as you login to the eshop by Aug 12th I think it is.

Cheapy you have another disgruntled trader apparently.

Very interesting. I wonder how Nintendo will react to this? I mean, you get both the price and the early adopter games.

So you can buy it at Wal-Mart from the 9th-11th for the lower price and get the games, but after the 12th starts, it's just the price?

No hassle of price matching? This may push me to buy it now instead of Black Friday...

Correct, if you buy before August 12th you'll only get the price reduction.

Correct. Though I would think you have until 11:59 to get the free games, but it hasn't really been clarified which games will be available when.

Figures this gets announced today after I bought one earlier at Best Buy, ugh, would've preferred avoiding the price guarantee charade.

I find it somewhat odd that Nintendo is gonna be selling the DSi XL and the 3DS for the exact same price. Anyone think the DSi XL drops anytime soon?

I think I'm gonna bite on this one now. Thanks OP. Since the Vita has been delayed, this looks like a good time to pick this up and play Zelda and RE. Looks like Walmart won over Amazon on this one imo. Let's see how Amazon will react. hehehe.
