All right. It looks like we have 16 interested players. I'm hoping everyone who has mentioned getting the game next week will do so and we won't have to find any replacements.
Something was mentioned to me tonight on the subject of everyone having two teams, and I think it's a good idea, as it addresses several potential issues (getting games played in a timely manner, keeping everyone from getting burnt out, and having one person with two teams in the Super Bowl). The idea was that we all still have our main team that we wish to play with, and we each have a secondary team. HOWEVER, the only time you will actually play as your secondary team is if they are scheduled to face a human opponent. So, if two secondary teams are scheduled to play each other, the game would just be simmed. The thought behind this is that it will keep us moving quicker if everyone doesn't have to worry about scheduling two games every 3-4 days. It may happen from time to time, but it won't be every single week for every person. I realize that most everyone is probably excited and wants to play a lot, but it makes more sense to put that effort into one team, get through multiple seasons, and build that team through trades and drafts than to struggle to get through one season trying to manage two teams. This really combines the best of both worlds of a standard subbing system, but one with a structure of knowing who you're going to play in advance. I hope this is agreeable to everyone. I'll be getting the team selection lottery set up tomorrow, and after that we can begin picking teams. If anyone has any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask! Thanks, guys! EDIT - Two more things about secondary teams. 1. You cannot trade players on your secondary team. 2. Your cannot choose a secondary team that is on your main team's schedule (Madden uses the real schedule for the 2011 season, so just use that as a reference when choosing your secondary team).

I guess we will just choose who are secondary team is after the draft? Also, I don't like having no trades for our secondary team, I just think we shouldn't be able to trade with our main team. I really wanted to play my secondary team, and maybe some people don't, but this seems to really limit there role.

It does. But that's kind of the point. Everyone controlling two teams wasn't really so everybody could HAVE two teams. It was just to make sure nobody got stuck playing the CPU. Your focus should be on your main team. You've just gotta think about it long term. If we want to have any hope of playing multiple seasons (which is the only way things like trading prospects or draft picks would even matter) is by advancing the league every 3-4 days. With one team alone, that's 2 games in a 7 day week.
Playing every game for a secondary team ups that commitment to 3-4 games in a 7 day week. Not everybody has that much free time. If we don't scale it back a bit, we're going to lose people. Yeah, we could just advance the weeks slower, but that would just make it take longer to get through the season, thus hurting your main team if people get burnt out or lose interest. The only thought behind not allowing trades with your secondary team is in case anyone else wants to join the league (all of the secondary teams will be available). I don't know how appealing it would be for them to come in and take over a team that has been broken apart already. I'm open to discussion of this issue though. Ultimately, just try to remember none of this is going to apply to your main team. These secondary teams aren't really OURS. We're just filling in. |

Team selection lottery is finally up! Check it out in the OP! Hopefully we can get this done quickly. I'd like to have all teams picked within a couple days at most.

I'm guessing Brandon (DarkTower) has been at work today and that's why he hasn't made his pick. Hopefully we'll make some substantial progress this evening.
