360 system and games pricing question

So Ive got a friend who's headed overseas for 3 years for grad school. He's got a 250 GB elite, 2 controllers, wifi adapter, and several games. Games are MW1, Halo Reach, Madden 12 and a few others, 3 more I think.

Ideally I'd like to offer him $200 for the system and the controllers. Is that a fair price? How much do Elites do for these days? What's a fair offer on everything/

I dont need the games. He said he would also take a trade for a new laptop but its going to be tough to find something in the $250 range....

I'd offer him $200 for everything, personally if it's the old style and you're sure it's Jasper/hasn't RROD'ed. If you don't want/need the games or the wifi adapter, trade them in for something you do want.

Also, now is one of the better times of the year to buy laptops as college is ending but that depends a good bit on where you're at.

I wouldnt pay more than a 125 for that stuff...if I was doing the person I was buying it off of a favor that is. Its already hard to re-sell phat consoles and make money at it unless youre buying them dirt cheap. Honestly, I would probably buy something like that for $80 cash. Then resell it for $120 cash and make a quick $40...and give someone else the headache of having to deal with it when it inevitably red rings.

Xbox 360 phat consoles have dropped substantially in value since the slims came out. You would be wise not to buy it at all and buy a slim for the $200. That way you wouldnt have to worry about it red ringing. The first gen phats (Xenon/Zephyr models) have about a 50% failure rate. The second gen phats (Falcon models) about a 30% failure rate. The 3rd gen phats (Jasper models) are at about a 5% to 10% failure rate and are the best phat systems to have. I have even heard that a Jasper phat will run cooler than a new slim model (makes sense because of the similar chip sizes in the 2 units, and the increased air-space in the phat vs the slightly smaller slim).

The easiest way to determine the generation of the phat console you have is to check the power port on the back of the console. There are 3 variations of the power port for the 3 different generations of phat console. Google images is your friend here. Basically I wouldnt pay over $50 for anything older than a Jasper...otherwise you are asking for problems.

No offense, but you would be an idiot to pay over $100 for anything that isnt a Jasper model. Dont waste your time if it is a Xenon/Zephyr/Falcon. It will most likely red ring if it is one of those models (if it has not red ringed and been fixed already - which is most likely).

EDIT: Just some FYI to help you out: In my 2+ years of repairing systems, only 1 or 2 times have I ever come across a red ringed Jasper system. In that same time I have probably fixed hundreds of Xenon/Zephyr/Falcon systems. The numbers speak for themselves. Dont be a fool and invest $200 in a non-Jasper phat. Do yourself a favor! I mean, I have installed water coolers onto Xenon/Zephyr systems only to have them fail. Xenons/Zephyrs/Falcons are way too unreliable due to the amount of heat generated by the GPU processor in those models. They are not cooled effectively enough - and if you have it in a somewhat enclosed airspace (like an entertainment center), that is even worse and you might as well kiss the thing goodbye.
