Dear Amazon, get them Amazon Gift Cards in Game Stop. Bought some Steam points there and realized yall are the ones with the deals.

I have a ton of Gamestop bucks but don't shop at Gamestop normally. Translates into a lot of Steam and PSN bucks.

Mostly see games like this hitting a $20 base price on Steam and getting 75% off sales sometimes. It is very rare for them to go below that. Amazon seems to be very similar in their pricing.
Honestly, what's the point in waiting 2 years to buy a game to save only $2 when the price is already so low? Just buy the game at $5 when it's available at that price. I find it amazing that a game of the quality of Darksiders or Metro are even available at that low of a price considering it first shipped $45-55 higher.

Why bother asking for even moar? Or wait.. whatever. But I think that's ridiculous if it's a game you're actually interested in playing.

(not directing this at you.. you just happen to be the last person on this topic)

It's probably because being cags here, you'd feel even better if it's cheaper or free. It probably has to do with your game backlog; if you have a lot of other things to play, then it can't hurt for you to wait for an even cheaper price. I was planning to get the x-com pack, but noticed it's been as low as 1.99 on Steam so I decided to hold off.

With a huge backlog already and some other things higher on my playlist, I guess one point people should realize is that you shouldn't feel rushed to buy anything as well. It's not so much as waiting 2 years to buy, but for some of us (parents), we simply have so little time to game now that it's almost foolish to buy ANYTHING now for more than $5. If it's $2 less, that's another game already.

I think some of us also never buy new releases for plenty of good reasons (massive bugs, patches for game balance, high price, etc). I used to wait till things hit $19.99 for a boxed game, but with digital distribution now, prices are going down even faster and wait till less than $9.99 or more now. Even at that and lower prices, I doubt I'd ever clear out my backlog.

It really boils down to time. Plenty of us are buying things we simply don't have the time to play/try so with that in mind, people who are delaying a purchase simply don't need it bad enough.

Just another perspective as to why some folks wait.

I have a question about Crysis sorry if its been answered before. Do I have to use the securom or whatever it is or can I still play it without it?

I just downloaded Sword of the Stars 2 from Amazon, but how do you install the game without having Steam download the again?
Old 06-02-2012, 11:34 AM   #4007
I *did* just buy the Bioshock two pack. I haven't played or seen either. I've just seen the commercials and review clips. I haven't even watched the famous intro, because I knew I'd get to it one day.

I obviously don't mind waiting!

What Hal said. You don't. It's a Steamworks game so it requires Steam as noted on the item page, albeit not so prominently.

On the plus side though, this game has had A LOT of patches and continues to get patched. With Steam this process is a lot easier since you won't have constantly go to a site and keep downloading and install patches all the time as it will be done automatically.

And before someone chimes is with 'Well maybe I don't want to patch' from everything I've read about this game it was forced out the door too early and really needs the patching.

Amazon guy. Any chance on a UbiSoft Sale? I would like to get Anno 2070, but cannot pay 50$ for a DRM filled game.

How about 14.99 or 19.99?

Thanks!

I didn't buy this deal (already have all of those on DVD) so I can't say 100% but as far as I know all versions of Crysis use securom.

Steam games are usually stored in Program Files (x86) / Steam / Steamapps / common. Try copying the files downloaded from Amazon there. Steam should recognize your game automatically. If not, choose "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" by right clicking Sword of the Stars 2 on your Steam library and choosing properties.

Hope this helps.

If I understood correctly, he is not saying he doesn't want to install Steam; he is saying that he downloaded the game from Amazon and doesn't want to download it again from Steam.

You can't download a Steam-required game from Amazon. They give you a code and you input it into Steam, which then downloads.

Regarding the Plentiful Paradox Package, anyone know how to activate the DLC that comes with the Magicka Collection? According to the product page, the following is included:

Magicka Vietnam
Magicka Wizard Survival Kit
Magicka Caverns and Marshlands
Magicka Nippon
Magicka Final Frontier
Magicka Frozen Lake
Magicka Watch Tower
Magicka Robe Bundle

However, after activating the key in Steam, only the base game is available - none of the listed DLC seems to be unlocked. Thanks for any help!

I got the code and also I downloaded some data from Amazon. The files looks like the files on a disk if you had a retail copy of Sword of the Stars 2. It even has an autorun file thingy.

Right-click and then choose "view downloaded content" and then the dlc tab. They should show up.

Are you sure it is SotS II and not SotS I or some other game? AFAIK all versions of SotS II require Steam. I'm not even sure there is a retail version of this game but even if there is for Steamworks games you still have to enter your code in the box in Steak and go through the Steam client.

Yes, it happens. A while back I downloaded Borderlands GoTY and when it was "done" it brought me to the Steam sign in. I was not pleased because at the time it was not listed as being a Steam game. More annoying was when I bought Red Alert 3 from them and it was not stated that it uses Securom

Okay, that sounds a bit like what happens when you buy some retail boxed games that require Steam. If you insert the disc and run, it sets up a directory and then prompts you to go to Steam for the actual game files. In any case it requires Steam for the vast majority of the setup and files and, of course, to actually run. Naturally, if you happen to know it uses Steam the best way is to simply take the provided key and activate it on Steam, letting it handle the rest.
