Broken controllers incoming, this is one of the most difficult games of last gen and has an end boss who took me 40 minutes to beat....its a rage inducing game at the end, hard as balls too. But awesome.

Nice to see we're finally getting some of the PS2 love that the UK already has.

The Walking Dead returns! After dominating the top spot in May, the Telltale Games team took the top slot once again in the month of July when Episode 2’s Add-On spurred gamers to download the core game more than any other title last month.

Though Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is well-represented on the PS Vita charts, it was the augmented reality game Table Top Tanks that actually snagged the top spot in July. Escape Plan saw a boost, due in part to its new Underworld DLC, but I’m sure we’re all curious to see if Sound Shapes makes the charts next month.

Check out the others below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Movers and Shakers
  • The Walking Dead – The release of the second episode, Starved For Help, spurred strong pickup for the Walking Dead, landing the apocalyptic title in the top spot for July.
  • Rainbow Moon – A potent debut for this well-liked PS3-exclusive strategy RPG. Who says Eastern RPGs are dead?
  • Batman: Arkham City – The release of Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises may have something to do with Arkham City’s nabbing the number 10 spot. Or maybe Batman is just awesome.
  • Dyad – The exclusive PSN racer/puzzle/shooter hybrid managed to debut at number 12 in July. Try it, you’ll like it!
  • Quantum Conundrum – The physics-based puzzler from one the driving forces behind Portal struck a chord with gamers in July, landing it at number 17.

The Drop for this week:
Quote:
PlayStation Network

Papo & Yo – Papo & Yo is the story of a young boy, Quico, and his best friend, Monster. Monster is a huge beast with razor-sharp teeth, but that doesn’t scare Quico away from playing with him. That said, Monster does have a very dangerous problem: an addiction to poisonous frogs. The minute he sees one hop by, he’ll scarf it down and fly into a violent, frog-induced rage where no one, including Quico, is safe. And yet, Quico loves his Monster and wants to save him.

CSI: Fatal Conspiracy – CSI: Fatal Conspiracy features five connected cases that will allow players to experience an authentic crime-solving video game with real CSI characters, heart-pounding interrogations and enhanced graphics.

Shinobi – Following a massive earthquake, Tokyo lies in ruin as mysterious forces seek out and obliterate what is left of the Oboro clan. In this rebirth of the classic SEGA action franchise, you take the role of Hotsuma, leader of the Oboro clan, as he battles through the demon-filled streets of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo in search of answers.

Using a unique stealth-dash technique, Hotsuma has the ability to move from enemy to enemy so quickly that a ghostly after image is left behind. This not only confuses Hotsuma’s enemies, but is also a key component in chaining attacks together to consecutively destroy hordes of enemies. “Ninja Magic” also provides Hotsuma with the upper hand in more desperate situations. In addition, Hotsuma has mastered the ability to run along walls, as well as scale buildings to reach hidden areas and special foes.

How new is the YouTube app, Frisky? Wondering if it's as broken for anyone else as it is for me - watch any music video hoste by Vevo (which typically have ads in front of them on YouTube), and it freezes the app before beeping three or four times and rebooting my PS3 automatically.

$20 for Jojo? No thanks.

Never played GunGrave. Any opinions? I was thinking of picking up Shinobi.

Also, out of curiosity, what were the last few PSOne Classics released and when? I feel like they're too far and few between anymore.

I own both, the original is a bit better, but then again I like the concept and character (I own the anime and the art book).

It's a third person shooter (think a more action based Max Payne 1 without the slo-mo) that has a goofy, semi-confusing story, but if you look into the other media it makes a lot more sense, since they expand upon the story in the game, and retcon a few things in the process.

The gfx are cel shaded and the game can be rough at times, (difficulty wise) however the big kicker is during boss fights when a boss has been damaged enough you can use a super attack on them which Grave will whip out his coffin and go to town on the boss with the awesome Gungrave title theme blaring during this time.

The second game is more refined, however they locked it at 30FPS, Grave doesn't look like a cowboy anymore, and the story is still confusing, but has some really good voice acting in it, and music too, I love Rocket Billy's guitar licks, and a new version of the title theme which is really good upgrade to it. The final boss battle is over the top, but cool too.

If you haven't played it before I give it a wholehearted recommendation (as long as you know what you're buying, I think you'll enjoy it), it was one of the criminally overlooked titles Sega brought to the PS2 that nobody played, and then Mastiff brought out the sequel and nobody played that either (it had a limited release).

I'd suggest playing the original first if possible, then getting this one and playing through for a more enjoyable experience, nice to see some of the better Euro PSN PS2 games migrating over here as well to get more exposure. Be nice if Sega would get Blood Will Tell on PSN, everyone should play it, it's that good.

The Drop for this week:
Quote:
PlayStation Network

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron – With the stakes higher and scale bigger than ever, fans will control an unprecedented assortment of Transformers characters armed with authentic transformation designed around their unique abilities, including Grimlock’s nearly indestructible T-Rex form and the legendary Combaticons forming into the colossal Bruticus. Taking the franchise’s competitive online play to all-new heights, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron pits players head-to-head in blistering Autobot vs. Decepticon matches.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS3 and PS Vita) – Once underway, players take the role of a one-man army determined to stop a deadly high-tech weapon from falling into the hands of a highly elite resistance group known as Dead Cell. Users must once again utilize their skills in stealth, weaponry, and counter-terrorism to fight off the competing powers; and as they progress through a twisting storyline, eventually destroy the gigantic war machine, Metal Gear Ray.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS3 and PS Vita) -- In the struggle to achieve world peace and world dominance in the Cold War period, rivaling governments are secretly developing weapons technology that could threaten the future existence of life. Destined to be the first, a race ensues to become the ultimate nation. A special elite tactical soldier is summoned to penetrate deep in the heart of enemy territory and obtain Intel about “Metal Gear”, a prototype weapon with nuclear capabilities. This is your mission and you must infiltrate alone. As “Naked Snake,” you must outsmart enemies with camouflage, close-quarters combat, stalking, interrogating, climbing, hunting and treating injuries in this critical chapter of the Metal Gear saga.

Retro/Grade – Retro/Grade stars ace fighter pilot Rick Rocket who has just saved the universe. Unfortunately, the massive destruction he left in his wake has caused a temporal anomaly that reversed the flow of time. You must assume control of Rick’s spacecraft and fight through the epic space battle … in reverse.

Michael Jackson: The Experience – He is the legendary King of Pop! Featuring an immersive and interactive experience for the Playstation Move that enables players to step into the shoes of Michael Jackson himself and re-live his most iconic moments through their own performance. The unparalleled tracklist features many of MJ’s biggest hits including Billie Jean, Beat It, Smooth Criminal and many more. There are an array of his awe-inspiring dance moves for players to learn and emulate within the game. Additionally, fans can sing along and test their vocal skills while immersed in the performance.

Deep Black – The unique underwater setting of Deep Black combines action-packed battles with an immersive story line that blends science-fiction, espionage and bio-terror. Realistic underwater physics add intensity to this third-person action thriller.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure HD – Based on the popular comic book series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD is an arcade fighter that lets you duke it out with your favorite characters from the comics. JoJo must travel to Egypt to find a cure for his sick mother. Each fighting character has his or her own Stand, a guardian spirit that aids in the battle. Unlike mortal humans though, Stands can reanimate quickly after defeat, so use this to your advantage as you try to defeat the evil Dio and his minions.

Gungrave: Overdose – Developed by Red Entertainment, Gungrave O.D. takes the carnage-based formula of the original, adds more characters and some new abilities to the mix. Expanding on its predecessor, it throws you in a cel-shaded world of exaggerated firefights and near delirious action sequences. In addition to franchise hero Grave, there are two additional fighters to choose from: Rocketbilly Redcadillac and Juji Kabane, who meet up with Grave at the beginning of the game. With the exception of the very first training battle, all three characters have the same set of missions to go through and deliver a different experience.

While I'm writing this up, myke. They're $15 each on PS3 and $20 each on Vita, which I guess is how they account for the extra game on the PS3 collection.
