For 360 controllers, I have one where a few buttons stick. Do they charge a refurb fee or do they just flat out not take them? Would be nice to get $20-30 for them since I will never use them again.

Did he scan the barcode on the promo sheet and the computer system didn't add the bonus, or did he just refuse to scan it altogether? I thought some have reported receiving the 30% bonus on accessories when the employee scans the promo barcode without requiring any special overrides.

Man if that's what they're giving for a Wii even before bonuses, I will likely never trade it in. Seems crazy to me to dump hardware for less than $50.

Well they are selling them for $79.99. With the bonus it gets $39. That seems pretty par for the course and some games have way worse margins.

Pretty sure they won't even take it. If you want to unsticky them yourself, it's not too hard. A few screws using this tool, pull apart and pop the buttons out and wipe them (and the holes) good with some isopropyl alcohol and piece back together.

I've had to fix so many damn 360 controllers, thanks to my daughter. They need to make a kid-proof controller that is 100% liquid proof.

Wont accept it.

I dont know. I traded in a six axis and two DS3 at two different GS's. All they did was hit the PS button and randomly hit the buttons. The X button on two of those controllers were pretty sticky I felt as the membrane was just getting worn out. They took them no questions asked.

Not sure about the whole philosophy of not trading in shoddy hardware. If GS checks the system and determines it a fair trade that's their problem. It should be THEIR responsibility to not give shoddy products to their customers.

You know the risks going in of buying a used product, especially hardware. GS also knows the risks of taking them in as trades. If they test it and it works and they give you the credit after you signed. Then that is a good deal for you. GS should have checked it more thoroughly or revise their policies to account for that.

I think they scan in the serial # on 360s to make sure they aren't banned so at least their's that.

edit: Also when I've done the 30% bonus for preorder. When I went back to cancel the preorder the line that always gets them to stop is "I preordered it on steam instead". If they say you can preorder it from them just say well I cant cancel the steam preorder.

I did not know if they fix slightly faulty controllers or if it had to be in full working condition. Calm down I had no intention of trying to trade it in if they weren't able to fix it.

Anyways, thanks for the tips on unstickying the buttons, I will look in to fixing the buttons sooner or later I already have 3 still fully functional controllers and friends who can bring their own as a last resort so I am in no rush.

They do not give us enough hours/time to have someone dedicated to testing all items that are traded in. It's at the employee's discretion to either accept/deny a controller trade in. How I usually do it is mess around with the joysticks and buttons to make sure they arent broken/sticky, and it doesnt look like it was tampered with I usually take it in.

gotta question, what is the best way to apply for Gamestop, a basic position of labeling games, cleaning or register jobs, all or a mix if the duties are interchangeable. I've looked online and only see manager spots, best to ask for an application in store?

GS is one of the few places that still does paper applications in-store. Each store holds seperate applications for the time alloted by either corporate or state law so if you live in an area w/multiple stores you have to apply at each one. Only exception is for stores just opening up, which will usually have a sign telling you where to apply.

Print an application online through GS website. Fill it out, attach your resume to it if you have one. Most stores are going to be looking for seasonal hires (usually in October) so your best chance to get hired is now.

Here's what I think you should have/be able to do:
  • 18 years or older
  • Sales experience is a plus (This includes knowledge about all video games)
  • Experience with POS system is a plus
  • Keep store clean/organized
  • Great customer service

Just gonna warn ya. You have to really push powerup cards and preorders or you won't last more than a month. (books-a-million was the same way when I worked there. My assistant Mgr. said I was one of the best employees he ever had and I always got along with customers and got great feedback, but I got fired after 2 months by the Mgr. since I didn't sell enough member cards or magazines.)

I was misinformed about the slim 320 GB slim PS3 price even though I asked for the base value. It is actually $100 base. The $130 they quoted me the other day included the bonus. So,

Slim 320 GB PS3 - $100

I hope the DS3 TIV holds for a bit longer. I have two more DS3 that I might trade in. Already did 2 x DS3 and a sixaxis. DS3 traded for $42, then bought new one off amazon for $40.

I saw him scan a barcode from a binder that he pulled out so he at least tried. Why it didn't work, I have no clue.

FYI I posted this in the weekly deals as well.

I took in 2 PS3 dual shock controllers whose buttons were getting a little squishy and traded them in for $42 EACH!! Base price was $30 and she gave me a 30% bonus for preordering a game for $5 and my power up 10%. So after the $5 preorder I got $79 for the two controllers.

Turned around and went straight to best buy and bought 2 new dual shock 3 controllers for $39.99 each. Basically got rid of some old wanky controllers and got two new Dual shocks for the price of the tax.
