Tactics MMO?
So I heard there's going to be a mechwarrior tactics mmo game, but it's not coming for another year or so. Are there any other tactic games that are out right now?

What exactly do you consider tactics to be?

Tactics games are turn-based strategy games that use tiles for movement of your units, without resource gathering or buildings -- usually purely unit/army based. Final Fantasy Tactics is probably one of the most well-known.
But no, I don't specifically know of any tactics MMO's. |

^ If that's the case.
You can try quite a few but one of the most talked about would be PoxNora: Battlefield of the Immortals It's F2P and available on STEAM. It's on my list for now and I will be removing it soon. So check it out |

Civilization 5 isn't really considered a tactics game - it's an all out turn based strategy game with city building and economics. You could almost say the battles play out in a tactics style way, except they don't take place on battle maps or anything, they take place on the world map. I wouldn't call it tactics.
Civ 5 games can last 8+ hours, honestly. It's definitely not a quick game. |

CivV keeps going on sale at Amazon for around $5-10 every other week. Keep an eye out there and you won't be sorry.

You should try Darkwind - War On Wheels also - It's on my list and falls under Turn-based tactics.
Tactics as a genre threw me off. I know it only as Turn-based tactics and tactical turn-based action games. |

If you're looking for any tactics games and not just MMOs there are tons of them on the PSP and some on the DS as well.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is made by the guys that made Final Fantasy Tactics. Yggdra Union and Jean D'Arc are both tactics games and are both highly regarded. All three of those are on PSP. There are a couple of the Disgaea games that are on PSP as well as the PS2 and PS3. The only one that I can think of offhand on the DS is Devil Survivor, which is a Shin Megami Tensei tactics game. That one is probably my favorite after Final Fantasy Tactics, due to the incredibly deep unit customization. The Valkyria Chronicles games (PS3 and PSP) aren't exactly tactics games but are quite similar and the first, at least, is excellent. The new X-COM game being made by Firaxis might be worth checking out, too. |
