This may be the appropriate place to ask - when has "the Morrissey" become the ing avant garde hairstle for women? It's like a pompadour meets a mullet.

What? Of course it's racist. Sony hates blacks...and whites. Hell, Sony hates everybody. Sony kicked my dog. Sony peed in my Cheerios. Sony.

Agreed, to me that symbolize the white psp is coming to take the place of the black one and its time for it to go. Or you could say that white psp is going to kick the black psps' ass.

I also thought that was a Black man until I read the article.

Um, there is a difference between ads that are controvercially provocative, and ads that can clearly be interpreted as tasteless racism.

Anyways, it appears that there are more pictures in this series of ads...

Seriously, dude, what the is Sony' ad firm smoking, that convinced them that a good way to advertise the white PSP would be to do photos of a black model and a white model duking it out? That just makes no ing sense. No way anyone could be that dense.

The only way that this ad is racist is that involves two people of different races. It would be naive to say that the ad isn't racially charged so to speak. Sony however would not give the green light to a campaign like this if it did not stir up at least some controversy. I think this shows some desperation on their part.

On a side note, does anybody remember a PSP vs DS video some gaming website made which had two girls dressed up as the handhelds fighting? I recall that one of the girls was white and the other black. I don't remember that being called 'racist'.

Was the white DS whipping the black PSP?

I thought people saw the ad as racist because the white figure is in a dominating pose over the black figure, invoking the white guilt/black shame feelings over slavery.

Or am I totally missing the point and we're just calling it "two people duking it out?" Even if it might not be racist, any idiot can see that it _could_ be construed as racist by certain parties, so we have to conclude that the Sony PSP marketers are:

a) Sheltered idiots from society (likely)
b) Trying to stir controversy on purpose (just as likely)

rac·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rszm)
n.
  1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
  2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

What the are you smoking? Sony is up to their neck in their own bullshit, and you grab on to some picture? This isn't even a straw argument, it's flat out false. Racism? Why? Is it because a WHITE woman is holding a BLACK woman in the image? Oh, SHIT black people and white people exist! I think the word you are looking for, the mighty Gestapo of Political Corectness that does involve race is:

in·ter·ra·cial ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ntr-rshl)
adj. Relating to, involving, or representing different races: interracial fellowship; an interracial neighborhood.

Now that I've handed your asses back to you, let me point out that Sony's intent IS to be "misunderstood" and to gain attention, as has already been pointed out quite a bit in this thread. All of your little OMG RACIST! discussions ensure that people see the stupid picture. The result, however, is that now I know that PSP White is coming, and have I been a consumer whore, I'd totally run out and get me one. If I was younger and a consumer whore (and most young people are) I'd beg my parents for a white PSP.

You all that say that Sony's marketing is awful and bad, consider this: I'm boycotting Sony (not really, but kinda). You shouldn't care, but my point is that I've been staying away from most of Sony's everything, including advertisements. However, Sony's marketing system ensures that someone sends me a link to this thread going "HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT?" In fact, I've also been forwarded this little "gem": http://crystaltips.typepad.com/wonde...p_adverts.html

Sony Marketing: 1. My day being Sony-free: 0.

And prior to sharing your opinion of how racist and wrong Sony is, you might want to clean up your forum first, so that shit like this doesn't get through:

BLACK SHAME FEELINGS OVER SLAVERY? Please. I really want you all to start proof-reading your shit before posting it anywhere. I know you probably go to a coffee shop, and read vampire books, which makes you feel intellectual. I know you think that your impeccable combination of English words has shone divine light into the heads of the other idiots on here that couldn't understand what was going on, but guess what, bitch? WRONG.

I hope all black people will now go and feel some shame for their ancestor's slavery, because Grand Knight vinhjdao says you should.

This may be a little offtopic but this reminds me of that one southpark where chef is up-in-arms over the flag that he says is racist because it shows a black person being hung by a white group. However it later goes on that the kids who are fighting to keep the flag the way it is, never saw it as black vs. white, just person vs. person.

On that note however, there are equally better campaigns to use to sell this, one of which I think would be a ying-yang sign, trying to show that the "other half" is coming, but then again, I'm sure some slack-jawed yokel would say that that was racist in some way as well.

I am going to play devils advocate here. If they had two white chicks battling. One dressed in black and one dressed in white could it then be racists also? I mean why didnt they use a black woman for the black spot?

The whole add of two models battling to represent the color of a hand held game system is stupid to begin with.

Don't you remember how much people bitched when the PSP came out here in just black? People made a big deal about not getting a white PSP.

So Sony is just capitalizing on what people want.

Coming out with a white one isnt stupid at all and I totally agree with them on doing so.

Its the adds that I find dumb when they use women to protray a game system.
