www.newegg.com has a lot of good deals.

In my opinion, ATI <-- nVidia, but nVidia is great too!

Not by a long shot. nVidia has lagged behind quite a bit. I wouldn't touch their FX line with a 10 ft pole. Go get yourself a Radeon 9800.

damn it will be impossible to pick a damn v card....ive heard so many diff reviews.....i heard the latest geforces can be beat because of their high core speeds and gaming at high resolution....ive heard the ati's are a littel behind at high resolutions and are more for lower reg games,,,,,,ahhh what do i do?? lol

ATI for sure. They have less compatibility issues (at least, in my case) and they just seem a bit more reliable and better. It might be simply because I've always had good ATI cards, but, that's my opinion.

i had a radeon 9600 pro that did very well for me for a while... great card! but i recently purchased my radeon 9800 xt... the greatest graphics iv seen so far! but it has a steep 500 dollar price tag.

The stock cooling on vid cards is fine if you don't overclock.

There are plenty of ways to overclock a card - you can alter the bios, use a software program or both. I don't recommend overclocking cause the performance increase is minimal while the risk of card damage is high. Not to mention that you have to add extra cooling to your card which is very difficult since you can easily damage your card.

Also don't get too caught up in the numbers. Go to a website - tomshardware.com is one of them - and look at performance benchmarks on different games and systems.
