Worth It to get a SNES?

The only reason I'm asking is because I plan on getting the Wii. I know Nintendo stated that you will be able to download past games. How wise would it be to get a SNES?

Anyone info if we will be able to download old SEGA games?

I think its worth it to get any system you dont have. even if all the games you want to play will be available on the wii it would still be cool to have an snes.

Not very considering how you can get it for free on your PC and that's deffinatly good enough to tide you over a few months until you can download games and play them on your TV if you absolutely must do that. If you don't like the keyboard just got to RadioShack and buy a controller to PC adaptor thing.

Assuming you don't overpay for the system and games it is just about the best decision you can make. Playing emulated versions of old school games almost never feels as good as playing them the way the intended to be played.

That is true, but I still say only get it if you really have the extra money and don't know what else to spend it on.

Multiplayer games are also much better enjoyed on an actual systems as well, and don't forget the super-scope-6.

Prior to the PS1/PS2 the SNES is the highest quality gaming console for your buck.

It represents mastery of the 2d/16 bit era (although I find GBA to be an SNES on steroids, it came much later).

I would get an SNES. It's not like once the Wii comes out, every SNES game will be ready for purchase Day 1.

Exactly. And even then, I would assume not every publisher will give Nintendo the rights to put their NES/SNES games onto the Wii.

No it is not. I grew up playing the SNES and unless your one of those people then I suggest not buying a SNES.

You can emulate SNES games via PC or PSP and play online no diffrent then before. Owning a SNES now would be for personal reasons like me buying a toy from my days in the crib.

Personally I am not going to buy any new system besides the NDS.

Yeah, but mostly because girls always want to play Donkey Kong when they come over.

If you plan on getting a snes, consider the fact that most of the prized games for the system command a high price for 15 year old carts. Any kind of Contra, Castlevania, Zelda, Mario games are all gonna run ya at least $10 a pop if not more. And the highly coveted Square rpg's like Chrono Triger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy, etc usually run much higher than that.

You could probably pick up a snes for $15-20 if you look hard enough, but be prepared to spend several times more than that for the games.

I suggest trying out some of the games on emulators first, to see if you think they are the worth the price. Thats what I use emulators for, to find games worth buying.

Those publishers aren't giving Nintendo anything. It's a new publishing deal that delivers new revenue on games over a decade old with nearly no capital investment going in. No sane publisher is going to withold their games. More likely they'll need to convince Nintendo to carry every item they can offer. nintendo is likely to be selective and seek to avoid having an avalanche of titles to organize and produce shopping pages for.

Winner. Nostalgia is nice, but there's no reason to waste valuable space that could be taken up by a 360, a Wii, a Phantom....wait, forget that.

I know people say "it doesn't feel the same" to play it on a PC - nuts to that. It feels fine. A nice bonus is having better sound (as most people here would probably have better PC speakers than they would TV speakers), more control over the game (ie save states without having to buy a Pro Action Replay, etc), and, oh, online play. I swear I had a smoother SFII experience on ZSNES than I have had most of the time on XBox Live. You can get controller adapters online pretty cheap - meaning < $10, that allow you to use your old controller if you are so inclined.

My old consoles sit in a box in the basement. I've already got enough junk in the way. When the time comes, I'll pass on my Genesis, NES, etc to some younger kids so they aren't tainted by playing a Playstation 5 (or whatever) first and thinking that all games have to look like that to be a good time.

It's worth it to own ANY console for the wonderful joy of saying you own that console. The only console I can think of that doesn't deserve to be owned is the 32x
