Half.com Integration Completion Update
Jun 16, 2004 12:00 PM

Dear Half.com Sellers:
The completion date for integrating Half.com into the eBay platform has been extended from July 13 to October 14, 2004. We know that many of you have been working hard to prepare for the transition to eBay and have experienced encouraging early results. Your success drives our success, and all of us at Half and eBay truly appreciate your efforts. However, we have also heard from many of you that although the transition is going well, you would like to have the flexibility of continuing to sell on Half.com during the important back-to-school season.

Based on this feedback, we have decided to leave Half.com open until October 14. This will allow you to maximize your sales during this back-to-school season, as well as have additional time to transition your business to eBay. For those of you who have been preparing for the transition, your hard work will put you ahead of the game. We strongly encourage you to sell on both eBay and Half.com during this transition period so that you can take advantage of the enhancements we have made to the eBay platform, the 105 million registered users on eBay and the upcoming eBay textbooks marketing campaign to help you realize sales results higher than ever before.

If you have questions about the date change from July 13 to October 14, please see our FAQ, attend a live Q&A session or stop by the Books, Movies, Music & Video Games booth if you are at eBay Live. We look forward to working with you to maximize your business on both eBay and Half.com in the short term and to successfully transition to eBay in the fall.

Best Wishes,

The Half.com by eBay Team

This is great news. I hope they keep extending the closing of Half.com and they decide to keep it open.

Aw.. I didn't even know they were killing half.com. Sucks cos I just sold a couple of games for exactly what I wanted from them, made a quick $30. Oh well.

What is the purpose of Half.com, what can be done there that can't be done on ebay?

Did they ever say why they're closing half.com in the first place?

The sellers compete with set prices, so the buyer doesn't have to worry about asshats with too much money who'll pay $30 for that Greatest Hits game, and $7 shipping on top of that.

Shipping on games is a flat $2.50. This alone makes it worthwhile.

Also sellers benefit because they can list what they want for an item and not have to worry about it slipping through the cracks. There are no 'mint Suikoden!' sales that end up going for $15.

I do secretly hope that Ebay keeps half.com going, but then again, I'm not planning on it staying open either!

I always preferred Half.com to eBay. I can't believe their closing it.

Their probably closing half.com since it probably doesn't generate as much money per transaction as eBay.

Yeah because there are no listing fees and you can have an item listed for as long as you want unlike on Ebay where you have to pay to list and you have to pay to keep relisting it if it doesn't sell.

This is actually the third time they delayed the closing of Half.com

It was first supposed to close at the end of last year but they extended it to May. Then due to complaints, they extended it to July and now they extended to October this time.

They bought half.com in order to close it. It was a competitor. Now its not.

The did say they were gonna close it many months ago..I thought it was already shut down...oh well soon it will be.

I liked half.com too but once ebay bought it...blah.

Ummmmmmm ....... Half.com is the shiznits. I can usually pick games up there for around $5-10 cheaper, because of the low shipping costs, plus no waiting for the auctions to end.

This is great news, btw.
