Why DID RAM skyrocket? One day I was looking at 1 gb of PC6400 RAM for $88, the next it was $120 and has been ever since.

Canvasch: What speed are you looking for? I wouldn't go as slow as PC3200 if I were you.

Wait till after christmas when prices should fall back down. Right now you won't be able to find any cheap ram. It went up around the time Core2Duo and AM2 came out, increasing demand for DDR2 and slowing down production of DDR at the same time, while all the big OEM builders were also buying up ram at the time for christmas and still are, so thus you had a very high increase in prices.
