Squaresoft Games

Recently I've found several games by Squaresoft for cheap, and I'm thinking of giving them a shot. I already own FFT and Legend of Mana, and I'll be getting Xenogears soon, and here are some deals I'm thinking about getting:

Threads of Fate (sealed) - $15
Vagrant Story (sealed/non-GH/Square collector's disc included) - $25

Those are obviously decent deals, but are the games really that good? Also, is Chrono Cross a must-have? Thanks in advance.

Threads of Fate was pretty good. I got into it till my PS died.

Vagrant Story on the other hand I did not like but that's just me.

Most of the time you can't go wrong with Squaresoft RPGs (just stay away from the SaGa series).

BTW CronoCross rules!!

he's right, Chrono Cross ing rocks. Vagrant Story has some of the best in-game graphics on PS1, and the gameplay is deep. Threads of Fate is kind of kiddy.

FF Tactics is awesome. i found Xenogears kind of boring, i know people are going to say i didn't understand the plot, i did. it's just the game wasn't that engrossing.

i'm going to pick up Front Mission 3 Monday along with Brave Fencer Musashi and non-GH FF VIII (my old case was stolen). I need to get one more game to get the 30% off with the GMR card.

Ditto on Chrono Cross, it's one of the best RPGs on the PS. I'd put that on the top of my list.

Splurge. Pick up all the RPG's mentioned here (Chrono Cross, Threads of Fate, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, and Brave Fencer Musashi)

I still remember buying Brave Fencer Musashi just for the Final Fantasy VIII demo disc (I was so hooked on part VII). To my surprise Brave Fencer was pretty damn good with a nice amount of humor. Gameplay is similar to the zelda series. Recommended for a fun gaming session.

im not a big fan of Xenogears, but almost all of their other RPGs are great. I even like a little game on the SNES called FF:Mystic Quest. was what got me hooked on RPGs(that and FFVII).

Two thumbs yet again to most squaresoft games, I'm hoping they'll look at hiring me in the future, that would be sweet.

Oh... and for Chrono Cross... it is a must have, and if you don't have Chrono Trigger, that is definetly a must have. Chrono Trigger was by far one of the best RPG's ever made, solely on the fact that it was one of the first Rpg's I played with my friend as a second character fighting along side me. It's so fun.

Parasite Eve is a great Squaresoft game as well. I loved the FMVs plus the psuedo-turn based fighting system is a lot of fun. Very cool RPG.

Vagrant Story was an interesting game. It focused heavily on item customization/design, which I normally enjoy, but I found it somewhat tiring to continuously switch weapons during most fights. A third-person fighter (real-time combat, but you could pause at any time to expand a "globe" representing the arc of your weapon's swing) with a very distinctive way of presenting the plot: a comic book-like style I found appealing.

If you can play imports and like racing games try Racing Lagoon. It's squaresoft's attempt at a racing RPG and isn't really bad at all. It has an overworld map that you drive around and random battles happen when someone flashes their lights at you or you flash your lights at them. If you win the race you can take a part from their car. There is a story, but since I cant read Japanese i dunno what it is.
Also Tobal 2 is another great squaresoft game that we never saw here.

Parasite Eve II, sucked to play, but to look at was great. Videos & Story are great, but the controlls suck. The boss fight on the balcony of the motel however, is one of my to 10 boss fights ever.

Einhander is a game that i have been looking for for some time at anyplace for cheap. On ebay they generally go for 30 to 40 dollars. My friend picked one up a few months ago at this mom'n'pop shop for $10, but won't sell it to me, so my search is still on.
