if you feel this doesn't belong here, i apologize. i thought this might help some people decide on the purchase of a jp 360. it has been a really nice added feature for me. ninja gaiden can still hang with the best of the next gen (but NG black cant for some reason).

UPDATE: Jim's Attic
http://home.netyou.jp/cc/jimkanoh/region.htm
this is a site run by a guy in japan who appears to be xbox superfan #1. it may not be an exhaustive list, but it's bigger than mine. if you want, you can cross reference it with the BC list to find some games that should work for you.

UPDATE: Added for reference
US XBOX BC List
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/back...ygameslist.htm

JP XBOX BC List
http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/back...ygameslist.htm

tested out the BC titles i had. i was pretty disappointed to find some in particular were region-locked.

All titles were tested on my JP 360.

Hey buddy, a fellow Japan CAGer. Nice to see we have at least a few on here. I'm gonna pick up a jp 360 in the coming weeks, as Lost Planet is looking mighty good. I'm thinkin about just buying the Core system and an HD, so I can sell the system and keep the HD when I inevitably move back to the US.

And it's nice to see some original xbox games are B/C on jp systems. I assumed that none of them were. Thanks! Here's hoping Deathrow and Metal Arms are playable. I'll try and add whatever I can once I get one.

Take it easy

metal arms is on both lists, and it is for sale in japan under the "world" series, so it very well could be region free. if not, the jp edition is usually cheap and the world games are entirely in english (im pretty sure).

I just tested a few and it seems that the US version of Star Wars:Battlefront (PH) works on a JP 360 and Fable does not.

How does "Magatama" look?

magatama looks quite nice. it's a little like otogi/ng, but not as good or as addictive as either. it can be had for a pretty low price from play-asia. unfortunately, i played through ninja gaiden and gears of war before playing it which means it would have suffered regardless of how good it was. i may go back and try it again, but i feel it probably just isn't that great a game.

I'm just curious how the BC may have improved it's graphics.

all games are bumped up to 720p (maintaining their original aspect ratio) and are smoothed out with 4x anti-aliasing. there are some other benefits in performance that are not really touted. in gamespot's bc tests, they found that the draw distance in the incredible hulk was increased in addition to the added clarity. some games have glitches though.

seriously, ninja gaiden on 360 looks better than what ive seen so far on the ps3. it actually looks better than some 360 titles too.

well, good news and bad news with the recent BC update. finally, we've got some 2d fighting in the form of sf:ac, but pdo and jsrf are region-locked.

i just picked up a copy of psychonauts, and it's region-locked too.

i just added two titles to the personally verified list. knowing that activision has not region-locked any 360 games, i thought i'd give spider-man 2 a shot, and it worked. so i think it's pretty safe to assume that any activision games on the list can be played.

half-life 2 doesn't really benefit any from the 360. it might clean it up a bit, but the framerate remains pretty choppy. better to wait for the orange/black box.

here are the titles added to the list so you don't have to check:

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
Magic: The Gathering - Battleground
Outrun 2006 - Coast 2 Coast
Project Gotham Racing 2
Without Warning
Winning Eleven 8 International

btw, with the early tony hawk games being added, i imagine those are playable too. good old activision.

Considering you think the NES Ninja Gaiden's suck, I'm gonna have to assume your 13. That and you play the Hulk and Spiderman. I'm guessing Tecmo Bowl was garbage too, compared to NCAA 08, in your eyes.

You need to respect the roots, and recognize that without these classic games, there'd be no NEXT GEN.
Man, why are casual gamers so ignorant?

nice try, but no cigar.

have you ever played the original ninja gaiden? no, not the nes version, the arcade game. well, that was the game i expected to be getting a port of when i shelled out my birthday money way more than 13 years ago to buy. despite its departure from everything that ninja gaiden was, i tried to enjoy it. i didn't.

the nes version didn't respect its roots, and you've managed to prove your own roots to be shallower than you may have expected.
man, why are so many ignorants gamers?

The arcade version isn't what you were talking about. It wasn't a retro comparison, you flat out said that the NES versions sucked. Sure.,.. the quarter muncher looked better, and was faster.... but the creators made the effort to broaden it's appeal, give it it's own mythology, and deepen the gameplay; which they did.
There were no ROOTS back then, the medium was still finding it's footing in the home console market. With more memory, better graphics, and a chance for story driven chapter-type gaming, without the need to suck your pockets clean, developers had a freedom they hadn't had before.

I'm pretty sure you're the guy that will play Smash TV on free play, and then brag about your dominance.

I am far from ignorant, you are just a casual tard, trying to gain reputation by doing an internet fanservice that has been done much more thouroughly on many more reputable sites.
Grats.
Why don't you post some links to news articles that you found on Digg.

i should have guessed you'd miss the point, seeing as how you have come in with such ridiculous, unfounded assumptions, but you keep on trucking there, ace. ninja gaiden arcade was brought up because you talked about gaming roots, and the first of the series, the one that got me into it, was the arcade game, while the nes version got me out. ninja gaiden on xbox was the return to the roots of the series.

and do you mean to say that the arcade doesn't count as gaming roots? i think you're on to something there. why not try some more baseless attempts at guessing my gaming preferences and style while you're at it? you're doin so well with everything so far. have you considered being a profiler or historian?

or how about you just post the link to where it's been done better (check digg, perhaps?), and leave this thread be? i'll gladly give them what i've done if it'll help make a better list. i don't know what sort of reputation you imagine i hope to establish by providing information to the asia regional board of cheapassgamer, but it couldn't possibly rival the sort of reptutation that you are giving yourself as the sort of guy who is so incensed by the fact that someone said your beloved series sucked, that he would ramble on with mccarthyistic harangues resembling a casual gamer witchhunt. it's neither here, nor there, but rest assured, i don't float.

btw,
it's = it is
its is the possessive.

anybody know if elder scrolls: morrowind is bc/region free on the jp 360?

the american edition of morrowind is region locked. i just tested not even 2 minutes ago. i can't speak for the GOTY edition. this is the standard edition. it gave me the usual region code error message.
