The SegaCD uses its own power cord in addition to the one in the Genesis unit. Do you have a second power cord plugged into the Sega CD?

Nope. But can I just buy another of the same cord I use for Genesis? Is that the only cord i need?

Nope. The Sega CD has a completely different Adaptor then the regular Genesis. Though if you get the CDX or JVC X'eye, you can run it all with one cord.

If you have a PS1 AC adapter (not the old traditional one) you can use that. I have a CDX and that's what I use.

Ummmm... not true at all. If you have the front loading Sega CD, it's the same adapter you use for the Genesis. If you have the pop up loading Sega CD, it uses the same adapter as well. Or any AC adapter that is giving you 9 Volts DC at 1.2 Amps should do.

You sure on this? I tried using the genesis adaptor on the sega cd model 2 and it didn't work. I had to find a Sega CD adaptor for that. If I find my AC Adaptors I'll check that.

Yes sir! I have both models of the genesis and sega cds. I took my old Genesis and Sega CD adaptors and used em for the Genesis 2 with pop up Sega CD. Work just the same.

Just buy another power cord. Which model do you own? Like I said I use my 7.5V Ac Cord from my PS1 and it works fine for my CDX. Heres what it looks like:

Either that or you got a busted Sega CD.

You probably just need a Genesis 1 power cord. That is the kind with no yellow ring in the plug.

Do you have the top loading Model 2 (more common), or the front loading (like a cdrom drive) Model 1? Also, do you have the Genesis Model 1 (larger with 16 bit on the top, volume control, and a headphone jack) or Model 2?

Neither model uses a special power cord. You just need another Genesis cord.

This is a Model 2 Sega CD with a Model 2 Genesis:

You definitely don't have a Model 3, as it doesn't attach to the Sega CD, and you definitely don't have the X'eye or CDX since they are all in one and don't attach to your Genesis. You can use a Model 1 Genesis with a Model 2 Sega CD, but not a Model 2 Genesis wth a Model 1 Sega CD.

Your problem seems to be that you don't have a power cord going into the Sega CD, you need power cords going into both the Sega CD and Genesis.
