And, in a worst case scenario, that Sony doesn't mandate that developers integrate with Home. As it is, would it be possible to integrate game requests for games like Resistance that are out well before Home launches? Will trophies be in every game? The nice thing about XBL is that features like these have to be in every title, whereas it is unclear if Sony plans to ensure that their new virtual world is utilized properly. After all, it isn't like Sony announced that, with Home, the "developers do what they want" system of online will now be unified under Sony.

great point. if there's a dark underbelly to this whole thing, it's that. we'll have to see. on the other hand, maybe devs will take to it on their own.

I just can't imagine how much R+D went into this, how much it cost, and only to have sony let it dry up quickly.

Good Sony.. goooooood SONY!

This looks kida cool.

It could possibly suck, but so far at least it's a mash-up that no one else has done yet.

Just as long as it's not too '2nd Life-y'

It's very ambitious of Sony, but I'm a bit concerned about the bandwidth limitations on getting this to run smoothly.

Actulally the whole trailer reminded me of the Phantasy star online I & II Lobbies

Actually, to me that just says to go pick up the competitor's products at an ALREADY cheaper price because they're doing things right.

I don't know what else Sony can steal. Maybe put a circular "blue" ring of light on their system that blinks red when not working? Maybe create a game called "Valo" with its main hero "Super Chief"?

I think you need to stop crying because sony came out with something good and you are mad because you know it is awesome.

Thats what I initially thought of as well. There better bet one-click muting

I would imagine that you can have your home in certain areas, and then travel to others. Themed regions would be very cool as well. Perhaps renaissanse, futuristic, cartooney, etc for all types of gamers.

The whole reason we like competition is that it forces companies to make better products, Sony took the best features besides exclusive games and topped it with psn home

they should change the name to PS Thwii Sixty.

after all, they're taking the best of the other guys and combining it into one

(besides the Wii remote...nothing could replace that I guess.)

meh, jabs aside, we'll see.

Well, they've done something at least. I'm not sure if this is topping anything (it all depends on if you like this sort of MMO interface), but competition is indeed great.

Does PS3 home bring me closer to rebuying a PS3? No, it really doesn't, but a lot of people seem to be digging it so they've struck a chord somewhere.

I could take a crappy stapler, a crappy tape dispenser, and a crappy calculator and combine them together to make one device. In the end, each thing would still be, y'know, crappy.

meh...proof is in the pudding. let's see how they integrate home relative to their overall network design and interface. live is annoying enough, but now we have 3d avatars to run around and bug the shit out of you...not to mention the weirdos

Did you even read what the Home is? They are doing some things with it that the other companies are not.

I was impressed by the what I saw, but it'll be really hard to build a community to interact with, given that not everyone can afford a PS3.

Nah. I'm saying Sony's copies will be crappy. I'm just amazed how people keep buying into this shit. Sony plays up something HUGE, people get excited, and it turns out to be about HALF as cool as Sony claimed it would be. And it happens with a new product every year, yet people still buy into it.

But whatever. If I spent $600 + on a new system, I'd be trying to spin this as the greatest thing since porn too.

Noone's trying to spin it that way. It's just an encouraging step towards Sony building as cohesive a community as Xbox Live has (and even more so, if no problems surface).

Sure, there could be a lot of problems (navigating, bandwidth, etc), but if Sony can iron them out, they've got themselves a great community tool right here.

They are finally giving the PS3 online some compelling features - ones that Live doesn't have!

(and before you come up with some accusation/rebuttal, I am not a sony fanboy. Don't even own a PS3. Just a 360/Wii)
