I hadn't even heard of him before, but I was just reading his biography.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_k.../sagawa/1.html

Long story short, he killed and ate some woman in France, and through some glitch in the legal system, was able to get off scot-free. He freely admits to the crime, and has become a celebrity in Japan because of it. He routinely is paid to give speeches, act in movies, and has written best selling books about his crime.

Nobody can do anything about this, because of some legal system technicality? We're all content to just let this guy walk free? And yet, if somebody were to gun this guy down on the street, they'd probably be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law.

What a world.

It's just another example of the rich and powerful using their influence to rise above the law in countries that are even more corrupt then America.

IMO this is an indictment of current legal systems, not mankind.

You said he gives speeches and acts in movies - but from the article it seems like he's more of a fringe character (similar to OJ, who was also paid to write a book) I have a hard time believing that this guy is not reviled by the general public of any country.

This thread is kinda stupid. The people who bitch and whine about "TEH BULLSHAT HIPPY TECHNICALZ!!!" almost never come up with a way to fix them that doesn't involve taking away people's rights.

This is so ing old it's not even funny.

But seriously, doesn't surprise me given it's Japan. I doubt this would happen in the US unless it was a super mega powerful person. This was a fairly ordinary guy.

If you want your faith in humanity restored, consider the 6 billion non-cannibals on the planet.

Or, rather, consider that the icon of 1980's Reaganomics, Lee Iacocca, has published a book lambasting the idiocy of the Bush administration. That'll put a smile on anyone's face.
