I just picked these up at a local Wal-Mart today. At first I was skeptical about them, I mean, how good could a $50 surround sound system be?

When I hooked it up I was SHOCKED. These things sound fantastic. There's some REALLY nice features about them.

1) Has a pass through video input so you can connect your game system to it easily.

2) Has 2 other inputs, one for your TV and one for an AUX device like a stereo, CD player, or computer. My digital cable box has no problems with it.

3) The speakers are nice and small yet still deliver rich sound. The bass is BOOMING.

4) The remote is small and slender and allows you to control things individually, such as the bass volume, the front speaker volume, and the back speaker volume. Great for late at night when you need to turn the bass down but don't want to turn the speakers down.

Overall I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone looking to get a great sounding surround sound system for a small room for their games and DVDs.

The unit does do Dolby Pro Logic, but not Dolby Digital, so it's only for people looking for something simple. But what I found odd is it seems to be doing Dolby, or at least mimmicking it, for regular TV viewing. It's great that even regular TV sounds like it's coming from a DVD now. Makes TV almost worth watching now.

I tested these speakers with Kill Bill and Saving Private Ryan using my Xbox as my DVD player and I guarantee you'll be impressed with how much sound you're getting from $50 speakers.

So yeah, definitely check these out.

I might have to check these out, I've been looking for a cheap, yet functional, surround sound system.

Not sure if I would go as far as GREAT for this.....but probably a fair to average setup for a smaller room.

Yeah, I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I was just really surprised at how great a $50 system sounds. It definitely sounds better than it has any right to at that price.

if you can show me a better deal on any other surround sound system than this 50.00 one(that gives as much bang for your buck), we can downgrade it from great but till then, Great it is :-) I too picked up one, and was amazed at this bad boy. Especially for the price.

I saw these too and was skeptical about the lack of Dolby Digital. DPL is what, 3 front (right center left), one rear, and the sub, right? Did you notice separation, or did it just sound like each speaker was playing the same thing?

For the price it sounds ok, but those home-theater-in-a-box things get cheaper and cheaper, and those usually do DD or DTS.

Will Wal-mart charge a restocking fee if you return these? I'd say for small rooms, especially apartments or dorms, they're worth a try, but I don't know if they'd outdo my two-speaker stereo or if I should just keep saving for a true DD unit.

I bought an APEX dvd/home theatre system and it was pure crap. I returned it and no restocking fees were charged. I assume the same would hold true for this system.

Ive seen $50 surround sound speakers at Walmart/Sams Club, and they look simular to this, only I think that they are made by logitech. Ill be picking up this or the other one Ive seen in the near future.

My living room isn't huge, so I think this might work for me.

Honestly, I have no clue what Dolby Digital really does. What will the difference be between this unit and one that supports DD?

For $50, you can't go wrong with trying it out. Can I expect to find these instore, or are they just available online?

I got mine in store. They're in a big square blue box that looks cheap as hell. Don't confuse them with the Wal-Mart brand surround sound system that's in a lime green box. Both are the same price.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Logitech Z-640. It could be had for less than $50 if you put a little effort into looking for it; this is the product:

Does anyone know how these compare to the surround system at Wal-Mart?

I use the z640s on my computer, for my home theatre system I got a reaaally nice Pioneer setup that my family got for free, but for my room those 50$ walmart ones could be cool. That would be a total of 10 speakers and 2 subs in my room!

The Durabrand HT-395 are only $10 more and support Dolby Digital 5.1 and Pro Logic, have two digital inputs (1 optical and 1 coaxial) and 3 stereo inputs. If you can find them I highly recomend them, I believe they are a walmart exclusive so some hunting may be involved.

DPL uses the 5 speakers but the two rear channels are the same. There may BE two rear channel speakers, but they will each play the same thing. DD 5.1 has two separate rear channels.

I got the Durabrand HT-400 for $70 around Thanksgiving time at Wal-Mart. It's got 200 wats, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Pro Logic as well. The only disadvantage is not having an optical input, but the games still sound awesome in Pro Logic. I agree with NatakuARN, Durabrand makes some good stuff and I also highly recommend them.

I think those are the ones Ive seen at WalMart, so Im also intrested in how they perform.
