WiFi connectivity problems...again!
Now the same damn thing is happening with my PS3. I have plowed through the threads at playstation.com, and have not found anything. Is there anyone on here that has a 2WIRE and has been able to get ANY damn Sony device to connect? If so, how? I'm considering getting a Linksys WiFi router and patching it into the 2WIRE and then connecting the Sony devices to it, but it burns me that I may have to spend extra cash to get this stuff working. One request to cheapasses that have a PSP and/or a PS3 running smoothly through their WiFi - what brand and model of router do you have? Might as well get the cheapest one that works. |

Checked for any FW updates to the 2Wire? I know they don't list any FW updates on their site, though contacting them might not be a bad idea.
Assuming you can get a separate DSL modem from your ISP, I'd kick the 2Wire to the curb and go with a Linksys/Netgear/Dlink/someoneotherthan2Wire branded router. |

For router testimonials....
I have a WRT-54G router from Linksys (and use the ddwrt open firmware)... and it's been a peach of a router for $49.... I got the original non-VxWorks router when it was on sale at Radio Shack, and I've had zero problems with any of my devices... DS, PSP, laptops (2... mac and linux)... the DD-Wrt firmware http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php is simple to install and set up... plus it allows for more tweaks to optimize antenna and bandwidth use... (and it doesn't take a degree in ancient babylonian astrology to figure it out...) I have never had a connectivity issue with this router (with the exception of the "360-connect" app for the Mac and 360 media sharing...and I think it's their app not playing nice with dd-wrt.) Solid for $50... and couple that with some bigger antennas and you've got yourself a wifi connection you can use out at the pool.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think I will look into replacing the 2WIRE, though I really hate having to do it. It's been a solid router that works with everything (PCs, Xbox, 360, DS) except Sony stuff.
If the ISP can't (or won't) accomodate another type of router, I'll probably buy a Linksys and then patch it into the 2WIRE via Ethernet. That ought to solve the problem. |
