Online mercs pretty much caps off the whole package for me.

Just finished the game, man it's such an amazing experience. I loved every minute of the game.

Done with the first chapter. While others seem to offer nothing but praise, those that don't play with online co-op may still be infuriated by Sheva.
She's not dumb, but requires a while to get used to. Thinking about how much ammo to give her, and how many health items to distribute is something I didn't want to deal with.

For me, RE has always been about fighting the horde along, but I think with this game Capcom has given into the success of games like Gears and others. The only problem is that their control scheme is stuck in the RE world, and is not ideal for this type of game. Just my two cents.

I think gears has spoiled people when it comes to FPS's. After finishing gears2, playing RE just feels weird. Most of the combat is basically run to a corner, turn and shoot, if they fall down, run up and hit X, then run to another corner and repeat...
Besides the wonky combat mechanics, the game's story/graphics/bosses are pretty nice.

Gears and RE5 aren't FPSs.

What's Merc's mode all about, is it just kill as many infected until time runs out/you die?

Yeah that is exactly what it is. It is fun to play through, and allows you to unlock certain things like other levels and characters to play through with (for mercenaries mode). Not only that but this time around Mercenaries has online co-op also.

To increase the time you have to collect/break these gold hourglass things that are scattered throughout the level to increase your time to allow you to continue killing. In order to get a high score you have to pull of killing streaks, and try to keep them going for as long as you can before the killing streaks reset back to zero due to inactivity of killing infected.

Yeah I loved every minute also. If you love the Resident Evil story, and have been following this game from the beginning for the story you won't be disappointed. Everything else was good also, but the story, cut scenes, music, characters were top-notch.

is mercenary mode available from the start? or do you have to beat the game like RE4?

Knowing this probably isnt going to be anything real groundbreaking, I still will stand behind this franchise and probably pick this up this weekend...along with Street Fighter 4...Damn you Capcom!

I've seen rumors that Wesker and Jill are both playable (two versions of Wesker, if I'm not mistaken) in Mercs mode.
