Yeah, if you haven't done anything like opened it up, then MS will probaby fix it, but for a price. Or you could just buy a new drive.

Didn't open it, didn't drop it, and only shows damaged dirty disc screen.

I bet it a thomson. It seems like they are real sensitive to lens cleaner as everyone who has a problem always says I clean my lens.

Microsoft is no help, they will tell you 99 dollars to fix. After that, call the better business bureau ad they will knock it down to 50 because if it is a thomson they know that there is a problem

Personally I had one that scratched disc's and was so happy I got the warranty. I have had another one for like 18 months and the drive has become incredibly slow.

c y'all wouldnt have these probs if u had just bought the extended warranty, $50 more gets u unlimited fixes for free for 2 years. my xbox had all those probs ranging from dirty disk errors to it wont even start up. i never abused it, infact it had sat in the entertainment centre since it was put in there. when it broke (4 times in all) i called up, they overnight a box to me to put the xbox in, i overnight it out with the xtra sticker they give u, and it gets fixed in usually less than a week and its all free. worth the $50? definetly

Well I bought mine the day it came out and even if I bought the extended warrenty it would have been over by now. But I complained and I bet if you do that also they will fix it for free or compromise with you.

Why don't you just buy a Samsung drive for it for less than $50 and install it. You'll be saving money and getting a better DVD drive at the same time.

Screw extended warranties, they are a scam. What you do is go buy a new xbox, carefully swap the serial numbers and return the broken one. You can even open the box without breaking the seal. I have done this successfully with both xbox and ps2. Good luck and let the flames begin!

oh, lol. Yea everyone should know how to do that. Just buy a used xbox from gamestop or ebgames. Those are packaged very poorly
