Hey.

I'm new to the area and wouldn't mind hanging out with a few people.
Perferably folks in their late 20s, professional, non smokers.

Go out for drinks (perfer jazz clubs), coffee or whatever.

Anyone interested?

I'm sure as much as people would like to........I think meeting people through the internet is just one of those things......that......people are extremely hesitant about.

I know io is from the Portland area. That's only the other CAG I know of, but I know there's plenty more.

And I'm too old for elder's desired age group . If there was a nice group I'd possibly be up for something, but it comes after my work and family commitments (and I'm in the very general Portland area but not Portland itself). And yes, there is some hesitation (not about you guys or even CAGs, just standard Internet heebie-jeebies).

Too old? I'm just barely 30 myself. Was just trying to find folks who were in the age group that 'dude' was not used as party of their daily vernacular.

I'm 24, jazz clubs aren't my thing, and I'm surprised that I didn't use the word "dude" earlier this in this sentence.

That being said, nothing personal, we're just different people.

Most of the Portlanders I've seen on the board in the past appear to be lurkers, and while I was at one time one of the biggest posters from this area, I've turned into one myself.

Oh well, Portlands way too far to drive to from here anyway. Welcome to Oregon though!

Well I'm back to working full time next week, so chances for meeting up will be getting pretty slim anyway.
If anyone is intersted in a meet up or whatever, just PM me. even if you don't fit the criteria. I do need to keep my mind open about meeting other types of people.

I would love to, but a toxic combination of school and work keeps me quite busy. Too busy even for my wife :(

I'd go, but it's a long drive. Although I did like OMSI and the sub.

Hehe, *quite* a long drive, would it not be? I have an OMSI membership but haven't gone much. I did see the Star Wars exhibit there though last Fall (actual props/costumes and best of all the ship models).

If you do ever get out here I could show you the empty husk of my shut-down Gamerush store . It remains unrented to this day... It would be like tombstoning but for old dead CAG deals .

Actually long drives aren't a deterrant. Time and having the extra money for gas and lodging are.

Wasn't a big fan of the roads of Portland (or much of Oregon), but Portland had two really nice botanical gardens. One was something like the Portland Botanical Garden. The other was, the Chinese Botanical Garden maybe? (it's been a while, I forget the names). The second was small, but both were very lovely.

*chuckles* We should all come from across the country for the official ceremony as you turn that shell of a former GameRush building into a monument.

Ha, I've driven around Atlanta and I wouldn't trade Portland traffic for Atlanta traffic for anything (or DC or LA traffic for that matter). I had to run into downtown Portland this afternoon and while I hit a few snags it was really no big deal - in and out between 4-6pm, very few problems.

Wierd that you mention that Chinese Botanical Garden - I was JUST standing next to that this weekend (looking for something else). I've never been though, but it looks nice.

It is nice, I went and I'm an actual Chinese person. (if that means anything...) I did a game trade w/ someone who happened to be a volunteer at the garden so we met there and she let me in as her guest and gave me a personal tour.

True it looks small on the outside, but it seems bigger on the inside because of how they use the space and the lines.

if i'm ever down in the area, i'd be glad to put a real face to those insane avatars.

Fair enough. My problem were roads that suddenly became different or ended without notice. I've driven all around the country and have never had such a problem navigating to my destination as when I was in Oregon.

I considered that bad engineering. But your point about Atlanta traffic and the disasterous 3 hours I spent getting NOTHING accomplished yesterday around Jimmy Carter Blvd... you're totally right. The idiots here didn't plan for realistic traffic estimates. And they keep building more homes and shops in these tiny areas where the roads can't handle the volume of traffic just passing by. Add new traffic for those destinations and no wonder you sit around all day waiting to move four feet. argh.

Of all the places I've driven, Phoenix is the place. Nice roads, well-timed lights, highways and off roads to handle not just current volume but anticipated growth. Just so dang expensive to buy a home out there.

Works for me. As much as I love our version of chinese food in this country I know it's nothing near to an honest meal in China. Having your stamp of approval validates my impression of the Garden as not something all commercial and gimmicky but something more authentic.

And yes, they do make superb use of space.

We're going to the Washington County Fair (me, wife and wild-haired 2 year old) this weekend and probably to the Children's museum next weekend.

And yes, the traffic in Atlanta is much worse. I dread having to visit my wife's relatives in Georgia.

Well, I've never been to China or anything so even though I am Chinese, I guess you could say I'm a bit disoriental. I don't usually eat very much rice. I don't think I even know any other real Chinese people - besides my own family. I'm definately not one of the "cool" Chinese people...

The fat middle aged caucasasian woman volunteer at the garden I did the game trade with knew a lot more about Chinese history than I ever have.


I've only done in person trades w/ 3 CAG's in Portland. They were all nice people.

Is going to the Oldtown/Chinatown street fair next weekend a good 'family fun' type event?

I didn't know about the street fair. Chinatown in downtown is pretty dead now and more Oldtown nowadays it seems. For Chinese people, the "new" Chinatown is over on SE 82nd.

If you're going to be in that area, you should check out Ground Kontrol. Its a retro arcade that I hear has 2 floors. I haven't been there since they moved and changed ownership, but I hear the new space is pretty cool. (well, new to me - I haven't been to Ground Kontrol for over 5 years)
