Do games come with software updates on them? I have version 2.3 or something. If I put in a game like resistance 2, will it prompt me to download the new version of the 'firmware' or is there an older version stored on the actual game disc?

Older games will have older fw unless they updated it when they manufactured newer copies. I think it would ask you to update to a newer fw that is even on the game if the game itself receieved updates since releasing.

you get a year warranty that starts after you received the system from Sony. you won't have to pay another 149 within that time frame.

edit- it is a 90 day warranty that you get for the repair/replacement that you get from Sony.

Do you guys know if Uncharted pre-order codes from the us will work in the UK?

You can probably redeem them with a US account, but it probably won't work with a UK version of the game.

I believe that the one year warranty would still cover them if they had any portion of it left, as opposed to the 90 day service warranty that you get when you get back your PS3 from Sony.

Just wanted to clarify that.

But if your one year warranty is long since gone, then the 90 day will cover you.

However, some states(not mine dammit) do not allow companies to limit the length of warranty that is offered on consumer products. I really wish I lived in one of those states, as I'd still have my fat model PS3 then.

I know PS3 games are region free but are games from a different region compatible with domestic saves/PSN data?

Like, I already have a North American copy of Uncharted 2. I have beaten the game, gotten some of the trophies, and have gotten to level 11 online.

If I were to import a copy from the UK, would all of my existing saves/trophies/MP data carry over or would I need to start again?

You would need to start again, since I don't believe that saves work universally. Otherwise, if they did, I'm sure someone would've already grabbed this import copy of Demon's Souls from me by now.

I would guess no. for instance if you check out the http://www.burnoutteamrocks.com site you'll see that depending on what version of Burnout you have the save data is in a different folder entirely. Presumably it's the same with all the games. They'll play but the save data won't carry over. the trophies you'll keep cause aren't tied to your save data don't know about your level that also might be tied to your PSN rather than your save data but I'm not sure.

So I'm taking my PS3 over to my sister's this weekend since my nephew has a PSP3000 I went ahead and bought FFVII and downloaded a bunch of demos for him. My question is since she doesn't have internet will I be able to transfer to the PSP offline? I've registered his PSP before but that was at my place.

You should be able to if it is registered with your PS3. All you're doing is copying from PS3 to PSP.

The space issue just depends on what you want to do with it. Some people store media on it (it also supports streaming-I do neither with mine). The other reason you might want it is for game downloads and the like, though bear in mind all of that is locked up with activation, so you don't really own it (though thankfully it is transferable in some fashion).

For myself, I'm fine with my 80GB drive, and in fact do okay with my 20GB drive on my Xbox.

Personally unless I could find a new older unit with backwards compatibility, I'd just go with the newest revision of the hardware. I'd probably go with the 250GB model, but you can always upgrade the drive later for pretty cheap, so for most people the 120GB drive is probably the way to go.

I have no idea what the real percentage is, but it almost seems about 50/50 if I had to guess. I know someone just did a list recently of a ton of new, high end games that DON'T, so it's not all of them.

From what I can remember, installs seem to typically be around 4GB. Also you can easily delete installs off for a game you've finished, so you don't have to budget space for like every game you own or anything like that. (I guess people who play multiplayer games a lot and are always going back to them might want more on, but for me I typically play through a game and then won't touch it for years, so don't need the install.)

(I still have my Metal Gear install on there though-no real reason, I just can't bare to delete Snake )

I am looking at waiting until the 250 GB PS3 Slim releases. I've heard some people suggest getting the 160GB Bundle with the Uncharted game instead is there a reason to that besides the whole Linux thing? Also, is a 250 GB system worth it or is 120GB enough space? Thanks
120 gb should be enough space, but I'd wait for the 250 gb. That way you'll have more than enough space for anything for the lifetime of the system, unless you seriously load it up with tons of different media. That way you get a new system with more efficient components, generate less heat, use less energy. You can pick up U1 for cheap, it's on sale right now at GS.com. And you won't have to bother buying and installing an HDD yourself, since 250 gb should be more than enough.

So right now, I'm on the internet on my PS3. I shared the wired connection from my Macbook with my PS3 wirelessly. The problem is, the connection doesn't support UPnP, leaving most streaming programs useless. Does anybody know of a way I can still stream to my PS3 via wireless without UPnP?

EDIT: Problem solved. For some reason, EyeConnect works even though it says it needs UPnP. Oh well, good for me.

Wait, so you can hook up a Mac to a wired connection and then use the Mac to create a wireless spot for the PS3?

Yes. Go to Preferences -> Sharing and then select 'Internet Sharing'. Choose to share internet from the Ethernet port to Airport. This works for me because my dorm doesn't allow wireless routers, but allows this.

But wouldn't I save money installing my own HD on a 120? Just wondering. I was about to bite on an Uncharted 160GB bundle myself, but I decided to wait for any black Friday deals that may come about.
