Sorry, I've got kind of a noob question, but I just got a PS3 yesterday, the charging cable is way too short for where I'm going to place it. Is there any generally reccomended cheap solution? Thanks.

If by charging cable, you mean 'standard USB to USB mini cable' that is used to recharge the controllers, you can simply use a USB cable extender. Monoprice, monoprice, Monoprice. Or your local electronics store.

Man, I think I'm screwed. Just had the PS3 shut down on me after I queued up the downloads from the PSN store update. So I got the red flashing light, turned the system off and back on and it kept freezing at the login screen. Tried it again and it froze after loading the XMB. The next time I turned it on it just sat there and gave me this message:

"Cannot Start. The correct Hard Drive was not found"

Anyone encounter this? The sony forums have not been much help.

How long is the average battery life per charge for the SixAxis and DualShock 3? I ask because I swear the DS 3 wears down in like 3 days, compared with over 2 weeks with the SixAxis.

My fully recharged battery lasts about a week and a half to two weeks depending on how often I'm playing.

3 days is way too short, I'm using a DS3 as well.

I play my PS3 constantly and the DS3 runs for over 1 week (usually up to two weeks).

How long are you actually using it per session though? I ask because sometimes I find myself playing using it for over 6 hours per shot. So, maybe that's it?

Mind you, I do sometimes NOT play the system for 2-3 days, but I shut down the controller from the menu before manually shutting down the PS3 by the power button.

I had zero problems with my SixAxis running for a week or two on a single charge, but the DS 3 just seems to need charging every maybe 3-4 days, but as I said that's with 5-6 hours per gaming session most times.

I've heard TMK say he's paranoid leaving his PS3 on for more than two-three hours at a time...

Ok I have had the MGS4 bundle since the day it came out.
I try not to leave the ps3 on to long but have had a few 4-5 hour benders and am getting paranoid. It seems to happen more often when I am online but I here 1 or 2 loud clicks almost everytime my ps3 gets turned on now. It happens after it has been on for a few minutes and it doesn't seem like a normal noise. I can here it loud and clear over the rocket fan and don't remember hearing this noise until I started playing gta 4 online 3 weeks ago.
My psp slim also had trouble reading hot shots open tee 2 a couple of times. Images of my dead phat ps2 are running in my head.

I've noticed it drains considerably less power when you play games without rumble support. I assume you can also simply turn the rumble off for the same level of consumption.

My DS3, however, tends to run out in a couple days. Of course, I don't plug it up until it's about dead, and lately I've played my PS3 for 3-5+ hours, daily (played 'The Last Guy' for almost 4 hours without realising it....and without blinking).

I got my PS3 (the standard 40gb) in February, and it already stopped reading discs this weekend.
It won't read any type of disc, so I went out and bought a PS3/bluray cleaner disc even though I assumed it wouldn't work. Of course it didn't; It sounds like the disc isn't even spinning.

I have the 2 year warranty on it which gives me my purchase price back, but I'm going to save that till a price drop. I'll just turn mine into Sony. It sucks because I saved a bunch of tv shows to the system hard drive and deleted them off the computer. There isn't a way to get them off the system over the network is there?

Nope. Launch 60gb worked great since day 1.

Mine wont read blu ray media. It still reads PSone and PS2 media along with DVDS. My box comes in on Wednesday. I hope I get a speedy recovery.

See now thats untrue, the Wii has plenty of good japanese games and the 360 elite has hardly any failure rate. The PS3.....well I'd like to support them but they constantly release updates that have a chance to brick systems.

Anyway, I had the same problem but since my system wasn't within warranty had to pay almost $200 for Sony to fix my system.

See, now that's untrue. I've gotten every PS3 update, and none of them bricked my console, though I did have a problem (read: no display) right when 2.4 came out, which was fixed by unplugging my TV from the wall for 2 mins, resetting my surge protector, and plugging back in. I wonder how many people had the same problem and thought it was their PS3 (as my 360 still worked fine through HDMI when my PS3 wouldn't display).

Same thing happened with my bros 60gb, he was still under warranty and Sony gladly fixed it.

I have an 80gig, which was part of the motorstorm package, haven't had any problems. But then again, i don't watch any blu-ray movies on it either or play any of my ps1 or ps2 discs on it, other than to test new ones i pick up every once in a while. Oh, i don't fold either.

Does anyone know if you can use the PS3 and eye to video chat with someone on a computer?
