Why? It's a dead format...

Hmm, I wonder if the huge price drop (for today) is in anyway related to the fact that HD-DVD is a dying format (what with Warner Bros/New Line/HBO joining the Blu-ray exclusive camp along with everyone but Universal and Paramount)...

Yeah that's 80 bones better spent somewhere else at this point.

Its just seems that at the Hd DVD camp, we see this going on often. I bet they had too may of these laying around .

But in the future, its all about downloading/streaming movies.

still plenty of movies out there for hd regardless if it is dead. If you have a 360 it is a good pick up. HD movies are getting dirt cheap. I have both formats btw.

I don't even have a HDTV and am tempted to get this. Sad. I guess there's no point - no HDTV and seems to be losing the format war. Besides, content is still too expensive for this CAG... $5 is my standard DVD sweet spot these days (bonus points for $2.99 and $3.99 lol).

I still wonder if something's up with a console revision, between this deal and Pro 360s being super-rare and Elites out of stock everywhere.

Bluray > HD-DVD. Why? At least Bluray is being used for games which are more important than movies.

That is just throwing good money away on bad products. That thing will be at Big Lots soon enough for 20 bucks. I wouldnt waste a cent on anything HD DVD related. You guys dont go buying Atari 2600 games because they're on sale, do you?

If those HD movies weren't going to be comming over to Blu Ray shortly I might have gotten this.

well IF you were a movie buff, 6 movies a player and remote for 80 bucks is about as dirt cheap as you're going to get, "dead format" or not. Still plenty of HD-DVD movies/documentaries out there to enjoy until the format gibberish is totally concluded and stand alone players start to mature and drop in price, not to mention the media.

Wow awesome deal. But I would pay a little more and get a stand alone HD-DVD player from Amazon, that way if the price keeps dropping you can get price adjustments (refunds) for 30 days.

I'm not gonna buy into Blu Ray or HD-DVD. Something tells me that either format won't last as long as DVD did.

Good to see all the format war jackasses chiming in. $80 shipped is pretty damn good for a high-def player with a decent library of flicks. Hard to see how you can go wrong getting this for less than the price of two new release games, especially with extra movies tossed in.

For the record, I have both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray playback.

That's a terrible analogy, buying Atari 2600 games is like buying VHS tapes. HD DVDs are better than their DVD alternatives and there are still plenty of movies that are on HD DVD, but not Blu Ray.

Holy Shaq-Fu!

I went to the Dotd page while thinking how I wished the A3 HD-DVD player would drop in price to $89.99.

Well I will take this thing!

I believe the 360 can upconvert movies as well, plus there are great movies on HD-DVD and should HD-DVD die, well I will just buy a combo player and keep it as part of my collection.
