Ya...no router or anything. Just direct connection to a wall jack. I have windows vista, so is there any way to kind of open up my connection and get rid of any restrictions?

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of info on transferring a 20g > 120g but info is lite on doing the process on a 60g > 120g. The 120g hd comes w/ a transfer cable but it only seems to work on a 20g > 120g as it keeps asking me if I have the 20g connected. I would try the Live support but those Indians aren't effective communicators (I've talked to 3 separate people and they've all given me the same shit scripted dialogue). Is it just me doing something wrong? Or is it just outdated software? WonderCAG powers unite! Form. of. Help!

It works the same with the 60gb. The migration kits can be used as many times as you want. During the instructions/setup everywhere it tells you to do something with the 20gb just do it with your 60gb and the transfer to the 120gb will work fine

You can't just have a cat5 cable coming out of the wall from no where. Do you have Cable/DSL/etc? There is a modem somewhere in your house distributing the internet.

I get my internet access as part of my rent...each room is hooked up to internet, so I have no access to the modem. If that is part of the problem, can I open up connections somehow from my comp?

Use internet connection sharing with your laptop or try buying a cheap wired router.

Nope, it doesn't work since I already followed the instructions down to the most minute detail. I specifically even used only the USB cord in the back (as they instructed me to despite my own doubts as to whether that even really matters). Having done more research on the matter (and a quick PM from another CAG), it seems that older 120g hds didn't have migration kits that had software that recognizes 60g hds. It was the thought being that the people who would migrate would only do so from 20 > 120. Go fig. Anyway, I'm sending off the pdf for a new migration kit tomorrow so hopefully, my nephew can stop bugging me about his 360 and I can get back to my own.

Malik's right about this. That internet is coming from somewhere so most likely your landlord (or whoever is in charge of your internet) has access to a modem/router that is filtering the internet room by room. Actually, are you in a college dorm? They might be even more restrictive than a normal apartment when it comes to internet usage.

As for actually using it, yes, you'll most likely need to enable internet sharing on your laptop and hook up your 360 to your laptop or get a cheap router.

So just out of curiosity, where do you guys suggest buying a 360? Online via Amazon or in a store like Target or Best Buy?

I just want to pick up the Arcade model for Star Ocean and Tales.

Lots of stuff you got to factor in....currently no deals (I believe) as of right now.

Amazon:
Pros: -Won't have to pay tax

Cons: -Have to wait for it to arrive
-If you want a jasper, no way to tell if you are getting one.

B&M:
Pros: -You are able to pick out which box you want (if you want a jasper or want one with the latest manufacture date).
-Can play it ASAP once you get home.

Cons: -Tax

I believe that is about it.

Am I boned? Wireless headset problem

So I purchased a wireless headset and it will not sync with my wireless controller. After doing some research I found out that a lot of people can't get their original wireless controllers to sync with this headset. By original I mean controllers from around launch. I called customer service and since they said my console is now out of warranty there is nothing they can do for me.

Has anyone had the same problem and been able to fix it? Has anyone been able to get microsoft to replace a controller for you? I'm really feeling kind of screwed here.

Any help is very much appreciated.

you gotta play with the switches for a little bit. Press the search button on the mic (near the lights) and then the search button on the 360.

thanks for the tip, I already tried that. The headset pairs with the system just fine but not my controller. The headset will pair with my wired controllers but it always just skips right over the quadrant of the wireless controller.

I had this problem at first but like the other poster said, keep messing around with it. Resetting the system. It took me awhile as well to sync but I got it working finally

OK So I was playing Xbox Live online last night no problem. I am using my computer online no problem. When I go to play Xbox online, I have to switch the connection into the wall from my computer to my xbox. It has been working fine for months. Today when I try to logon to Xbox, it can't and the test says it can't obtain an IP address.

Anyone have any idea why? I don't go through a router or anything. The computer/xbox plugs straight into the wall.

Yeesh, my gf's 360 is so damn loud!

My 360 runs fairly quiet, sometimes I can barely hear if it's on. But my GF's runs insanely loud! And it's NOT the disc drive. It's usually the most loud when it's at the dashboard; it will slowly escalate in loudness, getting to the point where it sounds like a vaccum (no joke) wtf is the deal? (She owns the Halo Edition)

If I buy a PC monitor with HDMI input (and speakers, of course), am I ready to go right out of the box with my HDMI cable? Will there be audio just like TV? Will it display 16x9 properly? How is quality vs VGA? Or is it better to go altogether with a PC monitor with RCA audio inputs and just buy the official 360 VGA adapter?

This is a general display question I'm confused about: what is the difference between 16x9 HDTV resolution and PC monitor 1680x1050?

Since I got my Xbox back from repair, it will no longer automatically sign me into my profile/Live when starting up. I'm aware of the option in the settings, and it still shows auto sign-in as enabled, but it just won't do it.

Why is this? Really annoying since I only have the one profile to begin with...

1920x1080 = 16x9
1680x1050 = 16x10
