I'm in a deal with MANIMAL for a couple of GBA games. I have over 140 feedback on ebay, 6 on IGN. He has nothing. But he agrees to ship at the same time with delivery confirmation. So should I trust him? Has anyone worked a deal with him here?

just have him ship 1 day before you with delivery of confirmation, since you have the larger feedback. One day is no big deal

Will the delivery confirmation note that it's coming to my address? I've used it a million times but I don't remember. It's marked to my ZIP code, right?

No, Delivery Confirmation only tells you where the package is. BUT, if you ar really worried, at my post office, the clerk will write the recipients name on the DC slip. So maybe he can scan it for you? This isn't fullproof, but if you are that concerned it might help.

The Clerks only write in the info if you leave it blank. You could write Sheepf_cker on it if you felt like it and no one would be the wiser. The confirmation # also only tells you when it has :

1. been accepted at the originating post office.
2. left the originating post office
3. received at the destination PO
4. delivered to the address (city given only, not the full address)

Delivery confirmation is not foolproof. The actual address is never recorded. Theoretically, he could send a letter to Joe guy in your same zipcode, write your last name and zipcode on the confirmation slip, and claim you got it the package when in fact you have gotten nothing. The only foolproof and secure mailing is registered mail w/ signature confirmation. But then he could always simply send an empty package.

Basically, you either trust him or you don't. Relying on PO confirmation is foolish if you don't have trust in the first place. Nothing against Manimal, I'm sure he's a fine and upstanding person. I'm just saying that if there is ever a doubt, don't agree to the trade.

Hmmm, when I have traded in other forums where I had less feedback than the other person (near zero), I shipped first and got payed upon arrival, or had my trade sent upon arrival. It just seems common sense that a person with numerous references has the other person with zero references ship before the ship/send anything. Kinda sucks for the newbie, but thats how he will have to build a reputation.

That is what I think. Really that is just the way it goes, but he doesn't think so. I like his offer so I want to trade with him.

Well, is it worth risking something you now have for something you *might* get?

I might be a little biased on this one, but I think you should get him to send first.

While this may not be a consoloation to the person trading, buuuut, if he doesn't send it will be easy enough to black list him on this site so no more harm is done in the future.

except that he could just re-register with a different username.

I wouldn't trust anybody named after a crappy Jon Travolta flick. Same day shipping screams I am gonna jack your stuff. I know people who have done this to others. Trust me when I say they don't show any remorse. But in the end its up to you. Are you willing to take the risk? I wouldn't.

Based on our agreement he will be sending first. Our agreement was to let this poll (and thus the users of CAG) decide how we should ship. Now I'll just wait to see if MANIMAL holds up his end of the bargain.

It appears he has decided to send first already.

Yup, but I haven't heard back from him about it yet. But to be fair it hasn't been very long.

Question for CheapyD, can you tell what IP address people are signing up from?

Old 03-04-2004, 12:41 AM   #18
yeah, I'm sure cheapy can verify someone who has signed up from the same IP address under a different username. But, the disclaimer in the trading forum pretty much absolves him from being a policeman, judge, and jury for trading. I'm sure he's got better things to do anyway.

Caveat Emptor.

It looks like all is well involving this trade.

As for the IP address thing, I know CheapyD has better things to do but did want to know if it's trackable. It would be interesting that if someone tried to rip off a member of CAG that CheapyD might be able to block his IP address so he couldn't re-sign up.

well when I first started trading I agreed to same day shipping and I didn't rip off anyone, or got ripped off myself.

I think what you really need to be concerned with is his # of posts. If he posts here often then he'll be less likly to rip you off, where-as someone with all of 2 posts could have easily signed up just to rip people off.
