No kidding. Three teams smash the world record, and the US relay just barely beats out France. That's got to be one of the most impressive come-from-behind moments I've ever seen in sports.

Made even greater by France's attitude pre-race.

When France was pulling away I thought there's no WAY we're getting this...but a .08 photo finish and a lunge at the last minute...wow!!...GO PHELPS!!

I for sure thought USA wasn't gonna win it when the 3rd leg got passed by the french team and was amazed by Phelps pulled out at the end.

Phelps went first, that was Lazek. Either way, it was an awesome race! I'm glad I stayed up to watch it. These games have been great so far (despite some of the controversies!)

I cant believe China is beating us so badly. I thought we would probaly come out on top this year....maybe be in second place but atleast it would be a close race. Ya our medal count is only 1 off from them....but they have like 8/9 gold medals where most of ours are bronze! At first I thought eh must be stuff like gymnastics largly but when I looked they were beating us in stuff like weight lifting too which is just sad!

I'm glad China's doing well. I don't view it as beating us so badly, because we're doing really well too. In nearly every event a world record is being broken. Both the USA and China have amazingly strong teams in an astounding number of events.

Sure, I cheer for my country, but in the end it doesn't make a difference whether the champion was born 1,500 miles from me or 15,000 miles from me. They're all human, and these games have been amazing so far.

Anyone watch Mens archery? Man, Italy had a chance at gold, but that third guy blew it basically handing Korea a gold.

I'm not surprised China is beating us. From the narratives and back stories they have been playing so far, it seems that the US attitude is that we WANT to win every competition whereas in China, they are EXPECTED to win. Also if you consider the numbers, China is about 4x as populated as the United States and I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have such a big pool of athletes to pull from. But in the end, it's making for a great competition across all events and let's not forget that it's amazing to see the entire world come together and coexist peacefully throughout the games.

"The Americans? We will smash them. That is what we came for." - French dude who anchored the 4x1 swimming team

Glad to see those assholes 2nd on the podium to the boys from the US. That was easily one of the most amazing olympic events I have ever seen (live anyway, not including highlights of older ones or anything). Honestly, with 50 meters to go, I thought we were screwed. With like 20 meters left lazek just kinda came out of nowhere.

Needless to say.. that was ing amazing.

Even if they had been talking shit, calling them "assholes" is pathetic.

But they weren't talking shit. They were confident. Who wasn't? These are olympic athletes we're talking about. Hell, one of the most important jobs of their coaches is to make them as confident as possible, so they perform better. And as it turns out, they had a lot of reason to be confident. The race was amazingly close, they completely shattered the previous record. Hell, even in the slo-mo replays I had trouble determining who touched first. All of the top 5 teams performed very, very well and should all be commended. To take a "shove it" attitude just because they went in confident is sad, it's just utterly pathetic.

I dunno man, "We will smash them" seems a little more then confidence, it's trash talking, pure and simple. If you're going to talk like that, you better be able to back it up, and they didn't. I'm sure most people felt the same way about the U.S. basketball teams of late, they talked trash and didn't back it up. I'm not sure what the problem is here.
