I went with just three games in mind for a first set ended up buying way more.... I need to lock up the debit card and cash for a bit.
Me and the girlfriend went early this morning and picked up: 2 wii point cards (one for each of us) 1.Infinite Undiscovery 360 (intended to be placeholder) 1.Too Human 360 (placeholder) 1. Pure PS3 She picked up: 1.Mario Kart Wii 1.Wario Shake It Wii 1.Harvest Moon Wii We get in the car and I start looking at the receipt for my set of games. I look it over and see that Infinite Undiscovery was 59.99-$20 making it 39.99. Glad It was something the girlfriend wanted cause that kind of ruined my plan. But she wanted it anyways, which made it a better deal. Later on in the day I realize that Pure PS3 is only 720p and no trophies. So I go back to the same tru to exchange it for the 360. While I'm waiting in line some very foolish person was trying to return two games from the deal stating they were a gift. I would have had no problem but it was kinda obvious what the persons intentions were. It wasn't too much trouble having them re-ring the purchase, unlike the previous return. They eventually just gave the dude a giftcard and he went right over to buy three more games. While I went looking for ds games. I ended up getting 3 more damn games 1.Kirby 2.Civ Revolutions 3.Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates Was surprised to see none of the wii cards were still around. I asked the clerk what happened as I wanted to pick up one more. Seems a gentlemen came in and bout the lot of 15+ cards. I honestly dont know why you wouldnt limit purchase of items especially when you limit the amount of wii fits you can get. None the less I've got one more run in me to get some more placeholders, and prey that dead space comes in this week. Just a heads up this was a nice little surprise but a bunch of Square games were 5-10 bucks off. Dont know if its been discussed or not. Crystal Chronicles Final Fantasy IV A2 Crisis Core were all the ones I saw with special pricing. |

The Toys 'R Us in Tigard, OR (near Washington Square) had no Wii Points. Apparently, they only had 2 in the morning and one guy came in right at open and bought both and left. Needless to say, both the cashier (who supposedly was working the R-Zone all day, and a really cool guy btw) and I agreed that person probably would've purchased all the cards that were available.
I purchased: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - $59.99 Pure - $59.99 NBA 2K9 - Free I am keeping NBA 2K9, but I'm gonna exchange SW:TFU and Pure for LittleBigPlanet and Guitar Hero: World Tour when they are released. I got gift receipts for both of those games. I'm gonna pick up two more placeholder games and SOCOM: Confrontation later this week (which ever day TRU has SOCOM in stock) and eventually exchange those two games for Mirror's Edge and Call of Duty: World at War, using the same strategy with gift receipts above. Seems like my store this year is allowing exchanges. Lastly, I picked up the following clearance titles: Dance Dance Revolution: Supernova 2 - $9.98 Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Channel - $9.98 Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (Non Greatest Hits) - Free Good day overall.

I do have to ask why TRU would seemingly have such low stock on something like Wii Points, since this appears to be a running trend in the posts. But I guess I can't really comment on what would be considered a "normal" amount of cards.

Has anyone seen DQIV instore since the website still won't add it to the sale?

Also, I asked earlier but didn't get answered. Can you do the placeholder thing, but return online instead of instore? |

I got to my local Toys R Us about an hour after opening. They were not very busy but had no Wii points cards. The employees had no idea if they even carried them. After about 10 minutes of searching I discovered that their place holder for them was in the glass case but it appeared they haven't had any for a while. So not every Toys R Us store that is out of Wii points cards is because of people hoarding. Some just are out of them, plain and simple. I had my chance at about 1am last night to order them online when the deal started but I figured I would pick them up in store along with some games so I could use my $10 off coupon. At about 6am this morning they sold out online. No big deal. Maybe they will get some on tomorrow's truck in the store, maybe not. Life goes on people. Don't get so upset.

Went out tonight but forgot it was Sunday and TRUS was already closed. Oops! Anyway I plan on doing placeholder with gift receipts. It worked fine last time and I was very happy about the situation. I'll make sure to ask ahead of time though.

My store had zero Classic Controllers when we opened today, and had quite a bit of people asking for them. My store had about a dozen or so points cards, didn't sell any in the first 4-5 hours we were opened. The last time we had a delivery of points cards was about 3 months ago. Depending on the store, some accessories sell better than others. |

Shame, I'll have to call them and see why not all games that are instock showup as b2g1.

Hey guys I don't know what I need to do in my situation. I'm looking to get the Socom Bundle, Rock band 2 (disc), and Guitar Hero World 2 (disc) all worth 60 dollars for the PS3. Rock band 2 and Guitar Hero come out after the sale but I read about the placeholder thing. So I buy the Socom Bundle during the sale, buy 2 random $60 games as placeholders, and exchange the placeholders 1 by 1 for the games I want on their release dates and ask to give me one of either guitar hero or rock band for free? Or will this not work?

Anyone know if the placeholder strategy would work at the TRU in Gainesville, FL?

6 is fine and a perfectly reasonable number, but 30 at my store? They really should have imposed a limit. I only wanted 4 (2 for myself, 2 as gifts) but would have been perfectly happy with 2 or 3. I hope I can PM this at BestBuy, or maybe convince someone to pick up a card or two if there are any available tomorrow, or cross my fingers for them to come in stock on the website. I had remembered I needed a classic controller anyway, and went back to the store. The table they had full of wii games (Mario Kart, WiiFit, Zelda, ect.) and accessories was mostly empty. On another note, if they ring up the wrong game free, you MAY be able to to get them to fix it this week if you go back to the store with all three games unopened, with the receipt, and get them to void the deal and ring it up again. YMMV. If you wait until after the promotion is over, it may already be too late and you will be stuck with your free game.

Most signs point to no, since stores tend to match prices - not promotions. Doesn't mean you can't try though. |
