Is it safe in a way that you won't get all caught up in these legal issues. I've been using Suprnova as of late, and I heard that it is because your ip doesnt show up, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance.

there are some "security" issues with doing almost anything on the internet.

make sure your virus defs are up to date and you have a strong firewall/router config and you should be fine...

Virus don't really worry me as I have some many virus defending programs running at one time. It's just I dont want to get "Caught"

Uh, no, they're not. Half the people getting busted are using torrents. Everyone that is using the torrent's IP shows up. MPAA busts a lot of people because of stuff they download via torrents.

IRC and usenet are the legaly safest ways to get questionable material.

Proxies. But I don't think you can use bit torrent through a proxy. Another option is to connect to someone's unsecure wireless access point.

No. Your IP is like your street address. If your connecting to another PC, it has to know where to send the data.

Now, I know someone's gonna jump on this and say that there is a way via bouncing around your connection and using a mask machine, but anyone persistent enough can backtrail you.

Not if untracability is built into the protocol itself, for example. (Check out freenet if you don't believe it's possible).

I believe bittorrent doesn't offer any 'stealth' featurs, so you could, in theory, start downloading and see who you're downloading from, then when the download's complete do it all over again.

But you'd have to monitor each torrent individually.

A better solution for you is just to stop consume MPAA/RIAA content and discover the wealth of alternative content out there.

There are programs out there that prevent known IPs from connecting to your machine and vice versa...

True, but you can never tell if you have an exhaustive list of "bad" addresses.

Suprnova is the last place you should be downloading from. The RIAA and MPAA are all over it by now, it's almost as bad using the non-lite version of Kazaa.

Uh, what? I never justified anything of theirs. I haven't bought a CD in years and I haven't bought a DVD in months.

And you really SHOULD use google. People were busted for downloading the 2Fast2Furious XViD DVDRIP.. the 5ch one.. a while back.

I don't justify anything, so don't try to make me look like some goody two shoes.

I'd love the see the source for that "Half the people getting busted are using torrents" remark.

File sharing should be reserved for game demos and pornography.

And by that, you actually mean "material which isn't copyright or is being shared with the consent of the copyright holder".

Remember practically all pornography is copyrighted, so sharing it is exactly as legal as sharing any hollywood blockbuster.

And there are other uses, of course. Sharing operating systems, congress speeches, books...
