PS3 won't output in high def with component cables!
I bought a PS3 tonight. I also purchased some 3rd party component cables. However, I can only get the system to output with A/V cables in standard def. The component cables have inputs for the Wii and 360 as well. I tried the cables with the 360 and got a perfect HD signal, yet everything's black with the PS3. What the hell is wrong? Why won't it output in 720p or 1080i? Would an HDMI to DVI adapter work?

When you had the component cables were plugged in, did you reset the video settings by holding down the power button for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep and the green light flashes?

Yes. When I do that, all I get is a black screen. Everything other than A/V cables results in a black screen.

Just wondering, did you by chance get the Madcatz component cables that have all three console inputs? If so, there's a switch somewhere on the cable where you can change it from standard def to high def.

I remember this being a known issue on older 1080i only TV's. If your TV doesn't support 720p, the PS3 downscales to 480p...time to upgrade your TV..
