Is that possible? Is there an adapter of some sort you can buy? The controller for DC is too big and uncomfortable.

I know there was one that allowed you to hook up Saturn controllers to the DC...Total Control 3 was the name of it, IIRC.

The most sure-fire way is to take an old Dreamcast pad, crack it open, and solder wires to specific points on the PCB. Then connect those wires to your controller of choice. Nothing like homebrew for the customized experience you crave. Unfortunately, getting the analog stick to work properly with this approach is very, very difficult. So if you want to go this route, you pretty much have to settle for digital controls. (as in, on/off only)

Fortunately, the Dreamcast actually lends itself pretty well to digital controls. This is because so many games for it took their roots from arcade cabinets, where digital controls were industry standard for so many years. The best application for this approach is to assemble your own arcade stick. A custom arcade stick is a great thing to have for the Dreamcast.

There are a few options for alternative controllers. For instance there is the original fighting pad or Saturn clone :

Also there is the PS1/PS2 adapter:

I don't get the hate for the DC controller. Then again, I do have large meat-hooks for hands.

Whatever you do, get something with a VMU port. This may seem obvious, but there are many that don't include it.

I recently got my Dreamcast out of the box to play Jet Grind Radio, and the controller is definitely not great for people with small hands like me. The short cable (and the fact that it is on the wrong side of the controller) does not help.

Whoa! Is that thing official? I never knew they made such a controller.

This. This controller looks pretty awesome, and I'm pretty sure I need it right now.

That's an amazing official pad. MUST HAVE!

Where the hell can I find one of those?

I can see what you mean. I kind of felt this way when I first got my DC in 2001, because my hands weren't done growing yet. I feel differently now, because of the aforementioned meat hooks.

In fact, the only controller that I actively hate because of my meaty hands is the N64 controller.
