NCIX has the i5 2500K on sale right now for $189.99. I got that and a 650W power supply. I'll probably get the rest of the components in the following week off Amazon since I have Prime. The GTX 570 is looking like a good option for graphics.

Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V PRO

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
Case: Lancool PC-K58
Storage: Samsung 1TB HDD

Problem 1: After I shutdown the computer, I have problems turning it back on. I have to resort to turning off/on the power supply (turn off the PSU until the power and reset button on the mobo turn off).

Problem 2: There are times when using the computer (happens the most when I'm watching a video, streaming or offline) where the computer will just freeze and the sound of the video will sound very choppy/slooooooow. I have to restart the computer to fix it.

Problem 3: After I wake up my computer from sleep mode, sometimes a popup will say the USB hub needs to be restarted because it isn't receiving enough power and asks to replug my devices. My USB devices (keyboard+mouse) work fine and even after I replug, the popup still comes up.
There might be some tips here that will help.

That should solve the power and USB issue, thanks! Surprised I didn't find that earlier.

Now to find a fix for the slowwww/freeze problem. Just happened without a video playing... I don't think it's a overheating problem either. Hrm.

Well, pulled the trigger after researching Tom's Hardware, NeoGaf, New Egg etc.

NCIX:

CPU: i5 2500K - $189.99
PSU: Antec Earthwatts Green 650W Power Supply - $49.99

Amazon (Thank you Prime shipping)

Case: Corsair 400R Case - $99.99
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 - $184.99
Heat Sink: Cooler Master 212 Plus - $25.42
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 - $51.99
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2 TB - $79.99
Optical Drive: Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive - $25.99
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 1536 MB GDDR5 - $489.99 ($459.99 after MIR + Batman AC!)
Thermaltake TG-1 thermal grease - $12.88

TOTAL: $1181.73 after MIR

Amazon orders should arrive Tuesday, followed by NCIX on Wednesday. I can't wait to put this together and finally learn how to build a computer. So geeked to have a project to take on and have a beast computer.

I'm thinking of either upgrading my current PC or building a new one, but I don't know where to start.

Current PC's specs http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/10...09464sp2.shtml

I just want to run the latest games in a medium setting.

The recommended PC builds in the first post of this thread should help. Just pick your budget and look up the listed parts.

That PLL overvoltage scared me on my latest build. "Not again" then I disabled it and had no problems the Asus P8Z68 v is a Mobo and easy to overclock with the 2500k. I did auto clock and I'm at just under 4.5ghz (4.496.x)

Microcenter had a crucial m4 128gb on sale for $180 but now its $210. I would keep an eye out for that I seen for $170 at amazon at one time too.

Always check out Microcenter. When you buy a mobo & CPU combo you get a $40 off when there in your cart.

Frys has corsair force 3 SSD 90gb for 99 AR [dead]
Compusa has 2600K cpu for 220 with a 2nd purchase of parts, also they have a 560 Ti video card for 190 AR which is similar to Newegg. Very good pricing for the cpu. You also get Arkham City for the PC with the video card.
Price effective 10/21 and 10/22

Ugh, this problem still happens and I'm not sure what it is. I ran memtest and I passed the tests. Anyone have an idea? I have a feeling it may be the drivers, but I dunno which to reinstall. =p

ncix is a mail order site like newegg, never ordered there though cuz microcenter has always been cheaper for me. CompUSA retail has the 2600K Friday/Saturday for 220.

Looks like it is still in stock and they offer free shipping. Mine is scheduled to arrive Wednesday.

All my stuff arrives from Amazon tomorrow, but I can't build my computer until the processor arrives on Wednesday. Guess I'll take the extra time to read some manuals.

^I'm pretty sure you can put the rest of the parts together, unless you just want to put it altogether at once. It can be a long process so might as well start while you can.

update your cpu's video drivers. grab drivers off of intel or wherever

also make sure it's not because it's going to sleep or something

no

also the reason why the network card works in the first slot is because not all the pci-e slots are pci-e x1 compatible which is what the network card is. the second pci-e slot is probably for dual-SLI videocards, the first slot is compatible with all pci-e cards.

yes, i know you're in the room right next to me and yes i bought all your parts anyway but i want to make fun of you over the internet.

Looks like I missed out by a couple hours.

Still looking to pick the 2500k at this price, anyone have any leads? or sales coming up?

I just finished building my computer. I screwed up installing the Cooler Master 212, but everything worked out (although the thermal paste job was affected by this). I can't install Windows or any drivers until tomorrow, but the two front mounted 120mm fans on my case won't work. I'm using a Corsair 400R and I can't even get the white leds on the fans to work. The CPU fan and the fan near the back work fine, but nothing from these two. The cables coming from the two fans connect into another pair of cables that lead to the front inputs above the first optical drive. I figured that they would receive power this way, but I don't see any other way to configure/install these. Is this a software/bios problems or am I just missing something?

When I was building my PC, I connected the fans to the motherboard using the 3-pin connectors. Check the manual to see where you should connect the fans. Should have labels like chassis.
