Is 650W enough nowadays?

Any thoughts on this MB? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128435

I also like the name of that case, they should all have names like that!

Yes, 650 is more than enough, unless you have something like 2x 5970s or something.

That motherboard looks decent. Premium motherboard with premium features for a premium price. For me, I don't have any devices that are USB3.0 or any devices that would utilize that Sata 6GB/s port to its potential, so a lot those features would be just wasting money for me.

I do want to get the most out of my CPU and it seems like it makes more sense to put my money into the motherboard/CPU and be able to upgrade around that for the next 4-5 years. I suppose I could put a SATA 6GB HDD in there, WD has a 1TB drive for $90 with those specs.

If you're looking 4-5 years in the future, probably you'll just rebuild a new computer (or at least I would)

but w/e, my 2c

Just wanted to give a big thanks to this thread, as I got my computer up and running. And it turned on! It totally powered up and turned on first time!

Would anyone be interested in pictures of my shiny new PCs innards to add to this thread? P.S. This was my first build ever. I'd love to post pictures with things I experienced building it for those who are also building for the first time... if there is interest

I grabbed my case today and that 650W power supply because of the sale, coupon and rebate it came to $69. I might wait on most of the innards until another sale.

go ahead, it could help others for their first time build, just seeing where everything goes and all that good stuff.

Build threads and pics are always cool to look at, if you ask me. Post away. And congrats, btw. I was very proud of myself when I finished my first home built PC. It lasted me a long time - still have it stashed in a closet, actually. I bet if I changed the CMOS battery, it'd fire right up. heh.

You were building this for your wife, right? I don't know if she's interested, but some of us CAGers are starting a guild.

I clicked in here because I'm going to be building a gaming rig, hopefully save the money and finish it by March. I look forward to your pics if you post them.

YES. I was building this for my lovely fiance (we'll be married in May 2011). I took the pictures, but then got waylaid by random dungeons and an awesome-drunken winning streak in Black Ops ... so they never made it online!

Budget?

Looking at the compatibility list for your mobo, the absolute best upgrade you can use is going to be this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103656

If you can find a 95W Phenom II 955, that would actually be the best that it will support, but those aren't as readily available right now.

See that's what confuses me. My mobo Is a am2/am2+. Thats an am3. I've seen those on the compatibility list

AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible with AM2+ motherboards. Many AM2+ motherboards(like yours) only require a BIOS update to use them. The main difference in the CPUs is support for DDR3 memory. AM3 processors support both DDR2 and DDR3 memory, while AM2+ only supports DDR2. So an AM3 processor can be used with an AM2+ motherboard, but AM2+ CPUs can't be used with an AM3 motherboard.
