I have an Ultra X3 1000W PSU, I would like to think that would be good enough. Anyone on here use an SLI setup? Is it worth the possible extra issues you have to deal with?

Not quite a "Build a PC" question per se, but this is something I've been wondering about for a while anyways.

Why do people run their games at crazy high resolutions (say, 2xxx by 1xxx) if their monitors are, presumably, limited by their native resolution? I mean, if I'm running my monitor at 1920 by 1080, what good would rendering a game at 2560 by 1600 do me? It's still limited by the monitor's native resolution when it display. I know they make some monitors that do go up that high, but I'm assuming most people are limited to HD resolutions, so it seems strange.

1000w (1kW) should be more than enough juice for anything you realistically throw at your computer. I've got my entire computer (running an i7 870 and Radeon HD 5770) on a ~450w card, and it doesn't come close to maxing that out, even under full load. You should probably be fine when it comes to power.

Take a look at the native resolution of 30" monitors sometime and you'll understand.

I updated the AMD processors, along with some of the AMD video cards, and added the latest Tom's Hardware builds. I'll probably do more later (Intel, nVidia, more AMD, some builds).

If anyone wants to take the time to add this, here's a site that does some decent complete builds (from web browsing PC to high end gaming rigs) every month or two.

Should I go for X4 965 + mobo combo now for about $190? Or wait till bulldozer comes out and see what it does to the market?

IS this a good deal for $75? Or should I wait and see if a similar one drops in price some more?

I'd wait, but it depends on how urgently you need new hardware.

Newegg is having their annual summer sale
http://promotions.newegg.com/neemail...x-_-E0-_-Enter

Any really good deals for someone in the market to build a completely new PC/Is that $700ish I7 bundle a decent deal?

That i7 bundle is not that great. First off, $35 bucks goes to an antivirus, that you can easily get for free... and secondly, they throw in a 5900 RPM "green" drive, that's not performance oriented. You'd probably be better off picking and choosing your own parts.

Deals that jumped out at me (prices after promo code obv):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220557
65$ memory 2x4gb 50$ after mir.
50$ with free shipping for 8gb is nice. real nice.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115073
i5 finally gets a price cut. 195$ isn't bad. might drop more sooner but good if you're buying now. note that this is NOT the 2500k.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...N82E1681111919
Good case for 80$. Free shipping.

Theres also this... thing...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817121068
a 1k watt modular psu for 134$ sounds really sketchy but maybe its good? you'd have to deal with all the ing rice though.

edit: actually just looked up a review for this at johnnyguru, got a decent score, its a psu worth using anyway. the only thing it was bad at was the value (this is when it cost 200+$) so at 134$ this is a very attractive buy if you can handle the lights and shit.
