Hello,
I'm looking to buy the 360 Spring arcade bundle, and wanted to use it for single player gaming. I have a ps3 that I use for online, but wanted to play Mass Effect, Gears of war, and some other games that the ps3 doesn't have. Those with the 360, is a HD needed? I also have a 4gb Flash Drive. thanks.

Yep, it's fine. You can always get a hard drive later.

I Think it has a 256MB built in memory as well. So should be fine either way especially with flash drive for any expansions.

You would have to connect to Xbox Live at least once in order to download that update I believe.

I would recommend getting a hard drive, if for no other reason than to be able to install your games to it so that the DVD drive isn't constantly in use while you play. It's a fair bit quieter, and runs cooler that way.

I also recommend buying a cheap 20GB HDD, but if you can't find a cheap one right away you can use the flash drive until you find a good deal. Saved games can easily fit on the Internal 512MB and there aren't a lot of games with Singleplayer DLC nor are there many great Arcade games.

I have two questions, after you download the NXE update on the 360, does it stay has taken space or does the system let you delete the data and save it own its own firmware data? Also can you save gamefiles on USB flash drives?

If you buy a new xbox it will already have NXE. and yes you can delete update after you are done with them. you can copy game save to usb but you wont be able to read them on a pc

With the update for using USB flash drives, the HDD has really become quite optional. You'll need to connect to XBL one time to get that update, but, I'm pretty sure you can download it with only a silver account, and besides, they will give you your first month of Live Gold for free anyway. You can store all your DLC and gamesaves on a flash drive now.

Picking up a HDD later isn't a bad idea, especially if you do want to install games, which make your system quieter and reduce wear and tear on your DVD drive. But I would avoid the 20GB drives, because they aren't big enough to install more than 2 or maybe 3 games anyway. Get a 60GB or larger drive if you get one at all.

The Arcade is a fine entry-level (or replacement!) system. You won't regret the purchase, especially at the current reduced price.

You don't have to connect to Live. Get it from the website and transfer it to a usb stick (or burn it to a CD); update your console that way.

Playing single player games is irrelevant to which 360 you get. None of the systems are made just for or specifically for multiplayer gaming.

Get an Elite, you'll be better off since you'll have a wireless controller and a larger storage space for your games.

Should be fine, but you'll probably want at least a 20GB hard drive for DLC, demos etc.

This man speaks lies! I personally would want a HDD simply for the Arcade games were I in your shoes. Some of my most favorite titles of this current generation have been off of the XBLA. Like everyone has said you will be fine without a harddrive for a while, and just using the flash drive is okay, but I would try to nab a used 20 GB for somewhat cheap on here or used elsewhere.

Bro, that's like saying you only want to hold hands or go to dinner with your girlfriend.

btw, skip the anemic 20GB HDD, go 60 or higher. you'll skip the upgrade later.

All 360's now come with the wireless controller. They stopped making the wired controllers when they discontinued the original "core" system and replaced it with the Arcade.

Also, even if you don't want to play online, it's still a good idea to keep your console connected to Live with a free Silver account, at least occasionally, so that you can download all the update patches for games, and backup your gamertag on the MS servers (which happens automatically).

Not everyone needs the space though. I've had a 20GB since Oct 2007 and haven't upgraded.

I don't play many arcade games, demos get deleted after playing. DLC gets deleted when I beat the game and trade it on Goozex.

Unless you're downloading movies, a ton of arcade games, tons of music tracks for the music games etc. 20GB is enough.
