Though the deal was a no brainer for me, seeing as how many original PS3's have been failing lately I figured now was the time. If it broke on me I would have to pay 150 to just get fixed crazy. This way I pay 150 to get new one with new warranty and I used CC that gives me any extra year on the warranty, finally I get a upgraded Harddrive, extra Six axis new smaller, power saving by 40% according to some places. I lose BC but I don't care I have 2 PS2 still a fat and a slim. for 164$ well well worth it.
Wish I could have done this. After reading your post I very well would have; had my PS3 blu ray drive not failed one week before this offer and the slim came out. Oh well, I'll be spending $80 to get a new bluray drive off ebay.

Just traded in a ps2 I had to get my father a slim tonight. I had $240 in credit so I only ended up paying $3.xx out of my pocket for a new ps3 for my dad. The two guys working at my local store tonight were idiots though. I frequent the store quite often and have never seen them there before, both new, both had hand written name tags, so they must have just been hired. Kind of weird that two newbies would be working without a manager on a Saturday don't you guys think? Anyways, it took forever for them to test my ps2, get the deal to go through since according to them I had to have a sony brand memory card (i had a third party one with the system), but I convinced them that I didn't and they tried it reluctantly and it went through. (duh) After that the one guy couldn't find a ps3 in the back. So after another 5 minutes he comes out with a box that looks like it had been used in a game of keep away. I should have had a picture of it. I look at the guy and tell him, seriously, you want me to take that home? Go get a different one where the box is in tact. After another few minutes he finally comes back out with a decent looking box.

I was in the store for about 20 min when it should have been only 5. I'm gonna talk to the manager when I see him next and ask him what was up with having two newbies that don't know what they are doing work on the busiest day of the week.

you probably could have got at least $200 if not $230 for it selling it outright. on top of that you're trying to preempt a problem that hasn't even happened yet. Gamestop will turn around and sell that PS3 for $280 after all.

I would have sold the PS3 myself but there is nothing wrong with taking the easy route and sell it to a willing buyer for a lower price. People do it all the time when they trade in cars to an auto dealer. The dealer will give you a lower price that you could get if you sold it yourself, then fix up the car, and resell it for a profit. It's business. In return the seller does not have to deal with the hassle of trying to sell the car himself. The loss that the seller took could be thought of as a service fee.

Has GS stopped taking in used Guitar Hero guitars for trade in? I stopped in two in the Twin Cities and both have said they will not accept them for trade.

I saw a kid bring in a guitar the other day and he sadly walked away when he was offered $2. Honestly though, every GS I've been to has at least a dozen guitars out with a likely chance of more in the back. Some just dont have the place to put them all, the market is pretty saturated with them too. Your GS might just have too many and dont want to take them, so you might just need to try a few others if you really want to unload it.

On the PS3 slim promo - would they take multiple PS2 systems for $50 each towards a PS3 system, or is it one only? I've got a few older PS2 systems and an 80gb that I wouldn't mind trading for a slim.

Should have traded that stuff in towards Batman: AA (or Halo ODST or CD MW 2). It would have netted you 25 % instead of 20 % then you just cancel the pre-order or return the game and then put that money towards the PS3.

My GS told me they don't take them any more either. He said even when they were, they were only giving $1 for them. I have 4 of the things now, so I honestly would have taken the $1 just to be rid of it.
