Action Doom is a total conversion that attempts to simulate 2D sidescroller shoot-em-up gameplay in Doom's first person perspective. The project was spearheaded by Stephen "Scuba Steve" Browning with additional help from Mike "Cyb" Watson, Julian Aubourg, and Kara "Nanami" Rader. The author of Action Doom dedicated a significant portion of time to creating blogged "advertisements" and held contests for various events to give away prizes that related to Action Doom.

The purpose of Action Doom was to not only create a modification for Doom, but to invent and market an imaginary product with the intent of simulating the environment surrounding the golden era of gaming of the early 90s. Coupled with the hopes of invigorating the stagnant Doom community, the author tried to generate as much hype and interest while showing almost no preliminary screenshots or information, leaving those items up to the community's imagination.

Action Doom brought Contra gameplay to Doom, Urban Brawl takes the popular ‘Beat-em-up’ style and fuses it with your favorite game.
Not only does Urban Brawl break new ground in terms of gameplay but visuals as well.
From start to finish the game looks and feels like a virtual comic book, the world and its inhabitants are entirely cell shaded and the story is told through a series of Sin City inspired cut scenes.

Dot Fighters

Old fashioned fighter with ridiculously charming graphics.

Takase's Dot Fighters is quite a departure from his previous work. Detailed 2D sprites prominently featured in Arm Joe have now been replaced with characters made out of huge pixels. Their faces are usually made out of several colored squares, with eyes and mouths left out of their portraits to accommodate the new style.

There are plenty of moves to choose from, with devastating ones limited to the amount of Dot Power that you have accumulated during each fight. Only four fighters are available in the latest version, though Quest Mode does include additional boss encounters and bonus rounds.

Only two attack buttons are ever used, but there's plenty of moves to learn and executing them doesn't require excellent memory skills. Press the A key to punch and tap the S key to kick. The escape key can be used to pause the game. Press alt-Enter to play in full screen mode.

Combos are usually initiated by tapping one of the action buttons repeatedly. Additional moves such as air combos, reversals, throws, safe landings and rolls are all here. Recommended for fans of the genre, and well worth the 284MB download.

Soldat (meaning "soldier" in Russian, among other languages) is a Polish 2D multiplayer game for Windows. It is a side-scroller inspired by Liero and Scorched Earth, combined with elements from Counter-Strike and Worms. The game is shareware. Registration unlocks extra aesthetic options, such as colored jet flames and custom interfaces. The latest version, 1.5.0, also includes a minimap and changeable screen resolution for registered users.

I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic love letter to the halcyon days of early American video gaming, packaged as a nail-ripping difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plant life and puzzle pieces.

Using a multi-route layout not unlike a Metroidvania, the game grants a degree of deadly exploration, without those extraneous upgrades meant to make life easier. The game provides players with a choice in terms of their death-rate, thanks to a variable difficulty setting that changes the number of save points from frequent to nonexistent. IWBTG is open to all players; knowledge of video gaming history is optional, and may not help against the frequently ironic and always sadistic deathtraps located herein. And so, the question is left up to you...

Yes many of them do. In fact, I have a great many games on my Netbook along with a Saitek P220, that I picked up for $5.99 at Staples for when I have to travel. Airports waits can be long and boring.

Kittey travels to the other end of the island, soars through the skies, raids pyramids and even stumbles into a really silly and dangerous dimension! Good grief! He'd better make sure his sugar level isn't too low.

AGwaK Adventures

What is happening?! A pond hippo fell from the sky and the volcano is going crazy! Kittey joins forces with the huge-nostrilled hippo Herbert and together, they embark on a wonderful little adventure!
They meet Witches, Monsters and Wind Horseys and maybe, if they're lucky, Kitty Island will not explode. Because that's an important plot point, too. Maybe.
But who cares anyway?! Just... go and play!

B5: IFH is amazing, but it's definitly not for newbies.

It features true space manueverability, as in once you stop accelerating, you don't slow down. You need to thrust in the opposite direction to slow down. It gives some crazy manuevers, but takes getting used to.

Still, it's a damn good time.

Wow I had no idea some of these games existed! Thanks for the list! I'll definitely try out Nexuiz since it looks like it features non-stop gameplay, something that I've been missing from the FPS genre for many years now.

Nexiuz is one of the best from this list. It's like UT and Quake had a love child. I have a lot of family members and close friends that love this game dearly. In the children center that I volunteer for many of the kids there have made maps for the game.

I play that game often. It's part of my top 3 - It's always in my rotation.

I have a lot more than whats on this list. I have 1 PC with almost 5 TBs of games on it alone. As time goes on I will post more. Who should I contact about making this a sticky thread?
