Konami Digital Entertainment announced today that Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, the first next-generation installment for the classic tactical RPG series, will be available on Xbox LIVEŽ Arcade for the Xbox 360Ž video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork. Featuring newly designed mechanics, Flames of Judgment combines the speedy RPG pace of the original with top-notch visual presentation. The rich storyline expands the universe further serving as the prequel to the original Vandal Hearts.

On the continent of Sostegaria, two rival kingdoms stand on the brink of war. Caught in the tide of battle is young orphan Tobias Martin. Driven to defend his homeland, and to avenge those already fallen, Tobias enlists with his comrades to fight for peace. But all is not what it seems, and they face a threat far deadlier - and closer - than they know. As the massive battle unfolds across expansive environments, players will experience party members adapting to their style of gameplay broadened by a deep range of character customization options.

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment will be released for Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 in August 2009 and the PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork in September 2009.

If they don't die in a fountain of blood I'm not interested.

I don't remember liking Vandal Hearts on PS1 but I might give this a try anyway. XBLA needs RPGs.

I was really excited until I saw the character art. It just looks wrong for this game. But I loved the first one so much and enjoyed the 2nd for what it was, so I will pick it up as long as the trial doesn't suck.

Hell, I almost bought Band of Bugs just because of the grid based SRPG gameplay.

Why do people talk about Band of Bugs like it was BAD? It was a very fun game while it lasted, and as soon as I played it, it made me dream of getting an XBLA version of Shining Force. The level editor was decently developed, and I know I had a few awesome online matches with it!

At any rate, Vandal Hearts... this is one of the few time I'LL even hae to say that the art looks pretty lacking. But that's not enough to keep me from a good SRPG. I hope this is a lot more solid than some underproduced game like Arkadian Warriors. I want meaty sound effects! I want Gushing Fountains of Blood, just like VH1! I want cool spells like Phase Shifter, and distinct "classes", with the chances to class change! And some Cameos from the old games!

Hope we get some video of this game soon. Motion with lots of personality can even make this kinda character design look cool...

I'm sure it was a fun game, but I just wasn't compelled by the thought of insects fighting each other. I love the SRPG gameplay, but I also really like them because most of the ones I REALLY enjoyed had engaging characters. Vandal Hearts, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, Kartia: The Word of Fate, and Saiyuki: Journey West are among my favorites of all time because they were fun to play, and had interesting and engaging characters and storylines.

Kartia: The Word of Fate, that is a game that kicked my ass, but then again I was rather young

I really wanted to get into Kartia... But it kinda effected me like Stella Deus; It didn't grab me like, say, Fina Fantasy Tactics. But I kinda blame that on basically just having a serious backlog of games by that time.

I was enjoying Lacryma's adventure, though... meh, so many games...

You could also attribute it to the fact that as much as there are many excellent SRPGs, none is close to the quality of FFT, which will always be the gold standard.

I get the sneaking suspicion that this is being developed by Americans. Just look at the character portraits.

Definitely day one for me. I'm still pissed off that Nintendo Power listed VH for the DS in their "Coming Soon" section for the longest time. Nothing ever came of that so, hopefully, this makes up for it. I still wouldn't mind a portable VH (DS/PSP), though.

I was a huge VH fan. I played the first game so many times. That being sad, I don't like the way this one looks. The character art is horrendous. I don't think I could stand looking at it long enough to play the game.

That is the first thing that crossed my mind.

My concern for this game continues to grow. I hope that I'm wrong.

I'll probably get it anyway. I never liked the character art in Jeanne D'Arc, but I still liked it enough to finish it.
