"Cheapass Broadband" is what you would call an OXYMORON.

Would the Net Zero High Speed for 14.95 qualify as broadband? I have never looked into what it actually is.

I think Net Zero High Speed is exactly what Earthlink has with Earthlink Accelerator. It's when 56K speed is increased slightly using accelerator sofware tools. It's not exactly broadband like cable or DSL.

i think i read somewhere that its just regular 56k, but they have some sorta "technology" that compresses images. so while internet pages load faster, nothing is really faster, text/pictures/such is just smaller.

I don't think it would. It says that it does not increase the transfer of video or sound files which leads me to believe that it is not truly high speed. It may just have some sort of process that speeds up the way pages load but thats it.

one time I looked into Bellsouth's DSL lite, as I have Bellsouth's regular DSL package. Lite is about 1/5 the speed of regualr DSL for like 2/3 the price (atleast when I looked at it).

Cable's the way to go but that's just my opinion.

Cable's the way to go until everyone on your block has it. Shared bandwidth gets smaller as more people use it. Then DSL will start looking much better.

if you have verizon, its only 30 a month w/ free msn and modem. or for around 100 a month, with verizon you can get everything, unlimite dsl w/ msn, unlimited long distance, local, caller id, call waiting, etc, etc.

That's what everyone says but I've had it for the past 3 or 4 years and I live dead in the heart of the city, still rarely dropping below 400kps download.

SBC Yahoo or Verizon are probably cheapest.

If customers purchase local or long distance telephone services from BellSouth, they get the "DSL Lite" for $35 a month. Otherwise, the cost is $39.95 for Internet-only subscribers.

BellSouth is calling its re-branded Internet service "FastAccess DSL Lite," and claims it offers download rates of 256 Kbps (kilobits per second) and upload speeds of 128 Kbps.

While the new "DSL Lite" offers Web surfing speeds of close to five times faster than dial-up Internet service, it also is a fraction of the download and upload rates for its current DSL offerings of 1.5 Mbps (megabits per second) downstream and 256 Kbps for uploading.

Basically your better off just spending a little more money and geting alot better speeds.
