So Sunday's episode of The Simpsons was pretty spot on with the libertarian, gun nut , end of the world types.

Goddamn, hopefully people don't assume Alex Jones represents most gun owners in America.

BTW, having finally seen all 3 seasons of Changmunity, I finally understand your sig Casey.

So, gun owners groups and... "video game administrators" have been invited to talk about gun control at the White House.

Is there yet evidence to suggest that video games play anything close to a major role in gun violence that they'd be singled out like this again?

No.

http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.c...act_id=1021452

Psychological studies show a correlation, but when you actually look at the statistics, there is, at best, no correlation. The paper above is not a perfect one, but I know it header to footer and have even communicated with the author on ideas how to improve it (not to imply that it is broken in any way), and I think that if it were "fixed," the conclusions made by the paper would be strengthened.

The two big things would be including a more robust spatial element and also getting proprietary data from Steam, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony to get a better idea on the actual amount of violent gameplay consumed.

When discussing Alex Jones, y'ever get that "damned if you do" feeling, thinking that, even if you're laughing your ass off posting his insane videos, that it doesn't do a thing to dissuade his true believers (or worse, spreads its message even further)?

A very, very miniscule percentage of video game players partake in violent attacks like Aurora or Sandy Hook.

A very, very miniscule percentage of legal firearm owners partake in violent attacks like Aurora or Sandy Hook.

I do wonder which percentage is greater though. Not that I think video games are in any way responsible for these horrible events.

The guy is a nut and isn't the best to represent people in favor of the 2nd amendment, but the accurate statistics don't lie.

People find a way to kill other people. Sadly it is inevitable, if you think you are safer taking away guns from every person to ensure that you keep it away from a potentially dangerous person, then you have no regard for the 2nd amendment. Regardless that person will find a way to do what they need to do. We need to work on protecting our schools and other vulnerable areas rather than attempting to play catch up on banning the latest way some disturbed person killed someone.

please stop this canard. gun control = gun control.

gun control ≠ taking all of every gun you own.

we can't have a reasonable discussion until this bullshit stops. we may never agree on gun control at all, but you, at the very least, have to stop bullshitting about the position of those you disagree with.

No drugs for me, not after the incident.

Piers Morgan just tried to find the craziest guy he could find to make us look bad. Instead of someone that can have an inteligent debate, like Ted Nugent.
